Would you give me 10-1 odds that our next coach is Coach K? My friend did.

    the bet
The next coach we hire is Coach K.
If JVG is still our coach on Oct 1st, 2007, the bet is off.
I bet $100; my friend is betting $1000. 10-1 odds.

    The Reason

I like the odds.

Since when does Alexander hire a "front runner". Aldeman is just here to distract the media.

You cannot publicly go after Coach K. Everything would have to be hush hush to actually get him.

Coach K is the coach of the National Team, under contract for 3 years. Does anyone think he took that job in the quest of 2008 gold, without he and Colangelo considering the need for him to get closer with NBA players...ie, coaching them.

Shane Battier is Coach Ks favorite Duke alumn.

Shane Battier is on the national team

Yao Ming is every coach's dream

TMac is also a dream to coach

Who better to convince TMac to play for the National Team that his NBA coach. haha

Bobby Knight was a PG and great coach. Coach K was Bobby Knight's PG and he became a great coach. VSpan is a PG and DaDakota wants to be his coach. Not sure where I'm going with this one....ok, i'll stop.

    10-1 odds!

The Lakers were about to pay him an obscene amount of money before they hired Rudy T. I doubt Les would pay as much.

If Aldeman is the man, why doesn't Alexander just hire him then? All the reports, and nothing else done, is why I made the bet. haha

In poker terms, Aldelman is called a bluff.

You can add Coach K. to the "Larry Brown List" of overrated coaches that I want absolutely nothing to do with.

with all these analogies to the game of poker, you DO realize that the game is BASKETBALL right? You can put up smoke and mirrors but this "Hey, I heard from a guy living in North Carolina through his baby's mama that Coach K wants to leave Duke--where he essentially god--to go and coach in a middle market city for a team that showed no interest of ever contacting him for a coaching position. In fact, this information is further strengthened because the Rockets have Shane Battier. Yes, THE Shane Battier." theory just makes it easier to laugh to the fact that your friend is about to become $100 richer.

uh, when you actually write up a contract of a bet, sign it, and put up $100, there are NO smoke and mirrors. It is pretty much as crystal clear as it comes.

uh, anyone wanna give me odds that Alexander will not hire the front runner. Remember how JVG was a complete surprise?

btw: i'm not that interested in Coach K as coach, either. But Aldeman is a worse idea.

Coach K was just a disguise to deal with Phil Jackson? What?

They hired Rudy T after Coach K decided to stay at Duke. The negotiations with LA were very serious, not just a smoke screen.

Adelman is going to be the guy.

I'd bet $78932645923752345794327532 that Dakota is creaming in his pants to coach Vspan.

Umm, Phil is better at poker than you and I combined. He made them hire a temp to make them sweat. How is that not understood?

    TheFreak,
"Uh...no?" as in you don't want to give me odds that Alexander will not hire the frontrunner, or do you mean that you remember JVG being the frontrunner for Rudy's job?

You said he was a surprise. I don't think that's true at all. IIRC the candidates were always Silas, Dunleavy, JVG. Carlisle and Brown may have been mentioned also, but JVG was always in the mix.

Sorry but I think that Coach K is beginning to look a little burnt out. I can't imagine him moving to the NBA and taking on a troubled team inherited from JVG.
Even with the National Team he didn't look all that effective and even made some blunders.
I do see that Adleman could be just a bluff to blow away Jvg and to keep the Rockets in the media. Even so I think Morey will need a kick in the pants to enable our team to go to the next level.
