In Hakeem's statement the other night in playing with Miami or the Laker's next year, really hit me in the heart. As much as I'd love for him to retire as a Rocket, I'd hate for him to go to the team most Rocket fan's hate (The Laker's)!!!!! The thought makes me sick. Tell me I'm DREAMING HAKEEM!!!!!

    themugg,

Do you hate the fact that he's think about leaving, or do you hate Hakeem as a person thinking about it?

I don't know. It hit me also when I heard all that crap! I mean what the Rockets should do at this point. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "It is a contradiction!!!" Hakeem is still one of the top 5 big men in the league, but yet we also have one of the top 5 point guards in Stevie, who is young and does not yet shown all he can do.

Everyone loves Dream here (except that whatever thefranchise3???).

    What should we do?

To answer your question, NO! I won't hate him, since no matter which team he plays for next season, he's still my most favorite player, and he's still the one who brought 2 champs in H-town.

i hate the fact he might leave. i wish he'd just enjoy his retirement party. but if the man wants to play, i guess he'll play.
he will always be my hands down favorite player no matter what. EVEN IF he went to the jazz, id still love dream.

I'd be very disappointed if Hakeem went anywhere else to play.

I'd hate Hakeem going anywhere...BUT unlike most of us I don't hate the Lakers....I grew up on Magic & you gotta admit Shaq has a great game (on occasion) ...If he had to go somewhere and I MEAN HAD TO....i'd pick the Lakers over anyone else.....I know this will be seen as blasphemy but think:Wilt,Magic,Kareem,Shaq,..... you gotta admit.....they got a tad of tradtion....

Ok....now you can crucify me..... [IMG]

I hate the Lakers, but that won't change my opinion of Hakeem if he ended up there.

As for the retirement party, I think this season should be considered it whether he plays some more next season or not. This is his last season to be paid like a superstar and probably his last season as a starter (certainly if he goes to Miami or LA). I would think of his playing next year like a post-retirement job that he works just to have something to do in his old age. I think he'll approach next season with a much different attitude: that he's playing -- not to fulfill his contract, not to make money, not to win a championship (if he won with the Lakers, he'd only be a cog in the machine that took it) -- because he loves to play and doesn't want to stop.

So, I'll be saying my last hurrah to Dream regardless of whether I'll still be cheering for him next season.

He could be like that old Celtic center that road the Bull's bench to those rings. Oh, I forgot his name. Does anyone remember him? He won a few rings with the Celts, then went to the Bulls and didn't even play but got some more rings.

Sure, I'd still want Hakeem to do well - even with the Lakers. Now, having said that, I would also like to see the Lakers lose every single game no matter who would be playing for them.

In other words, if Hakeem scores a billion points for the Lakers next year - good for hime - as long as the Lakers lose every single game.

I don't think Robert Parish played for the Bulls, did he? I know he left and played for Charlotte for a while until he was 41 but I didn't realize he went to Chicago before retiring.

As for Hakeem, I love the guy no matter what he is wearing.

Hakeem has seniority over Shaq, if he was signed by the Lakers, he could keep #34.
I think the Lakers would be the best option for Hakeem. I would LOVE to see him win another ring. Imagine how good the Lakers would be with Hakeem backing up Shaq.
I absolutely want Hakeem to retire as a Rocket, but if he does leave, I hope he joins LA.

    Yes.

I do not want Hakeem to go anywhere. But, he is the only reason I even started watching basketball. To me, there is no basketball without Hakeem. I still haven't figured out how I'm going to be a fan after he retires. I just never have before.

So, yes. Even if he went *gulp* to the Jazz.... Oh God, I hope that never happens. There would be so many mixed emotions and cross contamination of brain cells, I think I'd have a stroke.

I would hate to see Hakeem leave but whatever laundry Dream's wearing he'd still be one of my favorite players.
