Not now.... I am thinking that even after this year, he won't play more than 30 min a game and probably miss one game of back to backs. If that was the circumstance and he got through this year healthy, I would give him 3 years (third year a team option) of 8-9 million a year.
It absolutely IS knee-jerk. Did you miss all the stories over the summer talking about how long it would probably take for him to get anywhere near in basketball shape? They dont even know how long it is really gonna take over there in the Rockets front office and you think that a bunch of over-reactionary internet fans can tell? good lord some of you people.
LOL this is knee jerk but fun question... NO, unless the fool gives the team 14-8 with 50% shooting with upside to improve next season otherwise I would let him walk and see where the new CBA leaves you with the cap. Still way to early to even tell though, come back say by March to ask this question.
Well, no that's the point. Every year it's been "wait until next year". It's not a question of whether he is able to get back to prime Yao (that's not going to happen), it's a question of whether he can even play the NBA game anymore and regain his old confidence.
Of course. The real question should be whether he is still worth the max. From the two preseason games, I can clearly see that Yao is moving well on the court. Without a doubt, he is still able to play on the nba court. He got 7rbs and 3 blocks in 12 minutes tonight! His shooting is off, but he will be getting better. He was always a good shooter. I don't worry about that. Actually, Yao is doing better than I expected...
Well there you go. How can the front office make that decision based on 2 pre-season games? No one knows, but we'll all get a better idea 20-30 games into the season.
I'm not talking about short-term... I'm talking about long-term. He's had a season ending injury pretty much every season. Those injuries don't just magically go away, they have lasting effects on the body, re-injury, etc. At this point I feel Yao is a liability.
The thing with Yao is that he is worth the gamble. What if he stays healthy? He impacts the game so much that you almost have to take the chance. But you just can't get an answer for the long-term this early.
This. And he played a remarkably better game than the first game too. He seems to start to have a little better timing than the last game. I think he will do well as early as the start of the season.
Must be dying for something to talk about because this question is ridiculous. Mid season is more of an appropriate or fair time to ask rather than following the second preseason game. By the way, you know damn well this is a knee jerk thread.
