Would you rather have the Rockets' set of personnel or the Blazers'?

This is a pretty pointless thread, but I was thinking about this to myself and found it awfully close. Would you rather be a fan of a team (in Houston I'm assuming) that had everybody on the current Rockets payroll, administration and all, or everybody on the current Blazers payroll, taking into consideration your teams' chances to do well now as well as in future years?

On one hand you have Daryl Morey, one of the if not the singular best GM in the league at making the most out of what he was given, plus two superstars (at least they are supposed to be) in Tracy and Yao, with a one year rental and potential extension candidate in Ron Artest. The young core, although not highly touted, has promise, and the scouting department has proven more than its worth in acquiring new talent. It also appears that Morey is a keen negotiator and not one to be jerked around by agents (like Landry's), refusing to saddle the organization with bad contracts. Finally, we do have significant money coming off the books in 2010 (like many teams) and could potentially go after some big names like Wade or Bosh.

On the other hand you Kevin Pritchard, also touted as one of the best GM's in the league with a proven knack for acquiring good young talent as well as a leg up on most other organizations with regards to international scouting. Then you add in their young core of Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Fernandez, and Bayless and they have nowhere to go but up. Granted, they probably have zero chance to win it all this year (while the Rockets have their best chance of the Yao-T-Mac era in my opinion), but like New Orleans the year before them, their future is now, and they have a legitimate shot at getting a top four seed in the West. If you look at their roster, however, there is nobody with the ceiling that Yao and T-Mac both had (and should still have since they are <= 30 yrs of age) unless Oden all of a sudden finds an offensive game. Superstars win championships in the NBA, and while the Blazers look primed to have a great run atop the West like perhaps Adelman's Sacramento teams, I still highly doubt that they will ever win one in the next decade.

    What do you guys think?

I'd pick the Houston Rockets. Because this group of players are GOOD guys. No real bad guy except possibly T-Mac with his "soft" mentality.

Everyone else has a great attitude and work ethic.

we have a better chance to win NOW (say within the next 2 years) but doubtful b/c of all the injuries.

blazers have a VERY BRIGHT future (and now). outside of oden, they don't have guys with major injuries. roy is not a true superstar, but he's a very good all-star. they're stacked at every position with young guys. they're going to be a scary team in 2 years. they're already very good now.

Sometimes Rafer can be a bad guy. Didn't he get into a parking lot fight and stab some guy or something.

He seems like a great guy on TV though.

Damn I was trying to put in a poll but my option 2 exceeded the character length and next thing I know it's posted. Oh well.

I still think the Blazers are going to have a problem with losing all of their depth once their first contracts run out. Having a bright future is worthless if you can't keep them. Unless of course Paul Allen decides to have a $150 million payroll.

This is tough, the Blazers are all young and very talented.

Roy, Aldridge, Oden, Webster, Outlaw, Fernandez, Rodriguez

They are going to be contenders for a long time...

The Rockets have the better players when healthy, but that is such a wild card that it has to be factored in.

I will say I love watching the Blazers play....they play hard, smart basketball.....and Rudy Fernandez is fricken amazing.

These are the two teams I follow the closest. For this season, I'd rather have the Rockets personnel. Starting next year, I would choose the Blazers because they should be equal to (or better than) the Rockets and their long term future is much brighter. My concern is the Rockets championship window will slam shut soon either by injury or age of our two stars.

Like DD said, the Blazers are fun to watch. After LeBron and Wade, Brandon Roy might be my favorite player in the NBA.

But I'm a Rockets fan from top to bottom. Whoever puts on the jersey gets my support.

The Blazers team is put together like someone would put together an NBA 2k video game. A ton of players with potential that in theory should all progressively improve and all be great..but the Clippers around 2000 were the exact same, and we all know how that turned out. I'd stick with Morey.

Its a tough decision. Obviously the Rockets are the better team now. Portland will probably has the better chance to be the better team in the future (it depends a lot on what Tmac ends up doing in 2010 and what we do with Artest).

The tiebreaker might end up being who the better GM is. Prichard made moves to get Roy and Aldridge, but he had the ammo to do so also. Morey seems to be the master of the late 1st round moves. Paying money to draft Landry in the 2nd round. The hoopla to get Greene AND Dorsey with 1 draft pick and then trade Greene for Artest. Not to mention getting the Scola deal done.

So I would go with Houston.

    lol, Rodriguez is very talented?

The problem with Blazers is that they are unlikely to retain all of their young talents. Someone will pay them more when their contracts are up. Then, without a star player (i know Roy is very good, not a star imo though)they will be mediocre, the worst thing you can be.

The rockets, when healthy, have stars and they're way past the potential stage. If we haven't made strides by 2010 we'll essentially be rebuilding. Its much better to be really bad than mediocre.

2 of my favorite young talents in the league play in Portland: Rudy Fernandez and LaMarcus Alridge

With that said, I would rather have Daryl Morey. Sure the Blazers stock piled a bunch of young talent, but it seems their future is unpredictable.

Darl Morey has made moves that not only helps the team now, but maintains improvement for the future.

I will say that Pritchard is probably the best draft day GM in the league

sometimes I wonder, wat if durant was picked up portland. Now that would be a damn scary team. Roy will make durant's life a hell of lot easier.
