Basically the situation is im working in a small company that has a complete lack of professionalism. My supervisor is giving me impossible projects, that even he has no idea what the outcome should be. All the while he berates me for taking too much time and not asking for help. I've asked him for help countless times but he says he is too busy all the time. At this point this project might cost me my job. Ive thought about quitting, and ive got savings for a couple months. Also im finishing grad school ( which is already paid for) and will be done in december. I guess the question is, should I quit even though I know I will prob not find a job for awhile and just concentrate on school or should i just stick with it (earn as much money possible) knowing that I will get laid off in the end?
Stick with it as long as you can. Might as well make that little bit of extra money and if you get laid off you can get unemployment checks!
You should program a virus into the system that will take the fractions of a penny that remain on every bank transaction and deposit them into an account. The theft will be so gradual that it will take years before it's even noticed.
let me add a few more...and you're absoutely right about the beer one. seriously. never date a woman whose first name is also the name of a city never date a woman who has a tattoo of a dagger anywhere on her body never get less than 12 hours of sleep.
Stick it out until you find something else, unless you think you're about to be fired. If you're actually about to be fired, I'd quit. Layoffs mean unemployment or severance, so that's a different story. Does your boss know that you're graduating in December? He may fear that you're going to leave, which is why he's treating you this way. I had a similar situation and it was not pleasant.
There it is. I couldn't have said it any better. I left my job because I was miserable. I'm making about 1/2 what I made before, but I'm infinitely happier. So you have to make the call. Which would make you more miserable: being without money for a while or sticking with this job until the bitter end?
Realize it is a starter job, do the best you can and ignore the insults....bosses like that are a waste of time to worry about. DD
Rip his face off. I know someone was thinking about doing that to an a-hole coworker in another thread.
Take his stapler, embezzle money from the company, destroy the fax machine and if all else fails, burn the place to the ground.
^LoL - Pete The Bottle-Throwin' Cheat! TheyCallMeSuckItUpMan But seriously, I would DOCUMENT EVERYTHING, even what you say in meetings that they don't admit to. “That’s a terrible idea, a terrible idea.” “That’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard. Forget this idea it is terrible, terrible.” Good reference, yo. Nice.
Just stick with that and everything else is cream cheese. But serioulsy, TheyCallmeExMan, I know what you're going through. Couple years back, a kid came to me much the same way you're coming to me now, saying the same thing that you're saying. He wanted to drop off the team. His mother was a widow, all crippled up. She was scrubbing floors. She had this pin in her hip. So he wanted to drop basketball and get a job. Now these were poor people with real problems. Understand what I'm saying? What happened to the kid, you ask? I don't know. He quit. He was a third stringer, I didn't need him.
I would say start looking for a job immediately. Go with the idea of apply for jobs that you would when you finish grad school in a few months. If you are very good at what you do (despite the company you are working for now) then someone will give you an opportunity before you actually have your Masters in hand. I am of the opinion don't quit one job until you are certain of another one. My bank account is very happy with that arrangement.
