I am scheduled to fly to the UK on Thursday coming back on Monday, just a quick meeting and then a weekend BBQ with some old friends.

But the airports just opened back up, so would you take the chance of being stranded over there with the volcano or would you delay it for a couple of weeks just to be safe?

    I am on the fence.....

Just get your return flight booked through Spain. Then if worse comes to worse you can always get to Spain by land and still fly back.

I would love a chance to go to Iceland right now and observe Eyjafjallajökull from afar. I'm waiting for BBC, National Geograhic or the Discovery channel to do a document on it.

But honestly I wouldn't want to go to Europe right now. I don't I would want to be stuck there if things get worse.

I would delay, but I'm a special case. For one thing, I'm a nervous flyer in perfect conditions. For another, it wasn't long ago I was stuck in an Amsterdam hospital for nearly a week. Left a bad taste in my mouth for even the chance of being stuck overseas.

Neither of those are reasons for you to delay though. If you're not too scared to fly, I'd say you should go for it.

I could easily do it financially, as I used to live there and could stay at friends houses and our HQ is in Manchester so could office there.

But, family wise, I would miss a lot of kids baseball games & golf tournaments.

I am leaning heavily towards delaying a couple of weeks.....

delay if possible. probably not worth the risk if it isn't necessary to have your meetings this week

Yeah, it just sucks though as my old dev team had planned a big family BBQ on Saturday and I would get to meet one of my best friends new babies.....

But dang it....I just don't want to be stuck.

I would still go, you said financially its not a problem. Worse case scenario you get stuck for an extra 2-3 days, and I don't think that will happen....but if you're asking a message board to make up your mind, you aren't going to go...

I am moving it to May 11th instead.

The airports are not fully open, and I don't want to get stuck there.

I used to live over in Manchester, or at least split time there, and I like it a lot, but I really don't want to get stuck there, I also have too much to do at work.

    So, gonna delay.

I'm going back on Saturday. I think it is safe, and in fact has not been unsafe at all the whole time.

Sure, why not? You could always take a ferry to France and ride a train further away from the volcano to get a flight.

The safety is not what bothers me SJC, it is getting stuck while they decide if it is safe or not.

I'd delay, but not because of the risl of getting stuck or killed. Travel right now will be hell as they try to get all the people that really need to travel to where they need to go. Crowds will be heavy and seats will be in high demand. Why add to the problem for others and subject yourself to the bedlam if you can avoid it?
