Lakers are looking to win this year and we are not. Bynum hasn't been healthy but we don't really need him now. We can give him until training camp next year to get himself healthy. He would definitely plug up our middle. Scola would give them a their fourth big to really give them a push for the post season..
Is this a joke right? The guy hasent been healthy like forever, and scola has yet to miss a game... why would we do such a bad trade?
No. I know there is a need for a legit center. But why would you go for one that's on the court only slightly more than Yao? Dude gets hurt every other week.
1) Why is there no poll 2) As bad as we need a 7 footer, this is a young kid w/ injury history, RIGHT AFTER our Yao/Tmac era went down because of that, for a 30 year old, who NEVER gets hurt. No I don't think I'd do this trade, makes no sense. I am not against trading Scola, and if Bynum had proven to be as healthy as Dwight Howard, I'd be all for it, but not Bynum as I know now.
Vacuous idea as it does not come close to working in the CBA. Let's sign Eddie Curry after he's bo't out!
I agree with the comments noting Bynum's injury history and concern. That said, the only reason anyone would even remotely suggest starting this thread is because of his injury history. Without it, there's no way the Lakers consider that trade. Even with the injury history, may not be a trade they'd do. A healthy Bynum for the last month of the season and the playoffs is a better fit for their team than a healthy Scola all year. I would do this trade, though given Scola's BYC status, DM would have to get a little more creative. The fact is that we are a long way from championship contention. Scola will be much older by the time we get there. He also has 4 more years left on his contract. Bynum only has 1 more left.
It wouldn't be a straight trade but we have plenty of trade exceptions and the Jeffries contract to make a deal like this work. I just wanted to get a read if people would go for it as the core piece of a trade.
No to the question at hand. In related news, Bynum is out tonight (bone bruise on his knee). Kinda good for us, but then again they just have another long big in Lamar Odom that they can insert into the starting lineup...damn them!
I wouldn't mind Scola going to the Lakers just so he can look down at the end of the bench at Luke Walton and say, "Shine my shoes, @!$%#."
tough call. i'd lean towards "no". you know what you are getting with scola, but the truth is, you know what you are getting with Bynum too. This guy isn't going to magically become the cal ripken of the NBA. He's likely to deal with these kinds of injuries for the rest of his career, and there is also a high likelihood that they will significantly shorten his career. Scola is actually the antithesis of Bynum in many ways. Scola is an iron man, and i think his worth as an all-around NBA player is vastly underrated. Tough call, but Bynum is just too much of an injury risk. He can't help us if he's in street clothes most of the year.
If hes only 24 its hard to say no, like someone posted earlier let him get healthy and have him be ready by training camp. He could potentially be our center of the future. Imagine having him with a healthy martin and a solid 3, and t will playing point. T-Will Martin Battier Patterson Bynum
Unfortunately, I would. I say this cautiously and as a gigantic fan of Scola too. People need to understand if the idea of us acquiring an All-Star caliber center under the age of 25 is REALLY going to happen, it will require us taking a risk and doing something unconventional. Do Bynum's knees scare me? Absolutely. The point is finding another Scola is much easier than finding a quality 7-footer like Bynum. Between shifting Hayes back to the 4 and Patterson's emergence, the idea of us going in a different direction at PF is something to consider if it leads to us snagging the 5 we so desperately need.
