Since Roger, Andy and Baggs are coming off the books next year Drayton is going to have a lot of extra money to throw around. Soriano pulls in around 10 million a year but I'm not exactly sure when he is a free agent. He would be more of a short term solution as opposed to Burke who you can keep at a modest rate for more than a few years.

I would give anybody but Berkman and Oswalt for Soriano.

Soriano's a free agent at the end of the year and the only way I trade Burke for him is if he agrees to a contract with us beforehand.

Soriano is most likely a certainty to leave via free agency after the season, IMO. Why would we want to give up Burke? Everyone on this board has been raving about the guy, begging for him to have a chance. Of course, if Soriano was the final piece to a title, it would be well worth it...

I was up in DC last week and was watching the local news when he was interviewed during the All-Star stuff. He expressed interest in signing a multi-year deal with the team, but it was probably just something (the "right" thing?) to say instead of saying no way.

However with the new ownership in DC (they're having a promotional "grand re-opening" for the team this weekend), who knows what could happen.

I don't know if I could trade him, Ensberg yes. I see Burke as the next Craig Biggio, but it would be hard to pass up Soriano if we had him locked up on a long term deal.

Only if he signed an extension before the deal.

And why would he take himself off the FA market?

If he was signed for the next 4 or 5 years....no question. Absolute no brainer.
