    How about it

    Lakers get
    Cuttino Mobley
Mo Taylor in a sign and trade
    #13th pick overall

    Rockets get
    Kobe

So what do you all think. I would back court will have two SUPER stars. We will still have money to sign Chris Webber.

As unrealistic as it sounds, this is one great possibility, However i have a feeling that the Rockets won't trade Mobley since Cat is Francis's best friend on the team. Can you imagine a lineup with Bryant, Francis and Webber.......WOW.

Wow, I can just imagine the chemistry problems. Kobe on the Rockets? No thanks.

    pass ... flush ... next!

I would prefer team players like Francis and Webber.
Go to the ESPN Boards if you want to kiss Kobe's ass.

The Lakers would get the short end on that, which is good, but I still don't like Kobe. Maybe if we shipped him on to a 3rd team, I'd be happy with it.

I like that trade, but I would turn around and ship Kobe to Toronto for Vince Carter.

    Francis
    Anderson
    Carter
    Webber
    Haywood

(I know it could never work, but it is fun to think about).

    DAMN!!

Now why did you have to throw Cat in there?

Throw in Kenny and another #1 instead of Cat, and I'd do that trade in a heartbeat! Say what you will about Kobe, the guy can ball! I just hope for his sake he matures, or he'll alienate fans like Penny has.

I mean, you can't be too critical of him, his belief that he's the best (remember, even our own Stevie Franchise has been quoted on several occassions as wanting to be the best), his criticism of Shaq, disagreements with Chief Triangle or Shaq, etc. Let's all remember that just this year, own our beloved Dream had some serious issues with the offense and how he fit in it, as have other players since the league started. So, he's cocky, nothing that hasn't been said of Steve and Cat, and there's nothing wrong with having a swagger. In terms of Shaq, Kobe hasn't said anything that hasn't been well-chronicled by virtual every sports publication and network since Shaq entered the league (FT shooting, conditioning, desire, focus, etc.).

Personally, I think Kobe vs Shaq is WAY over blown, as is Kobe vs Phil. Fact is, put 1 or all of these 3 in another market or another team (save NY and CHI), and the flames aren't nearly as bright.

Now I'm not completely defending Kobe. He does have a lot of growing up to do, and he's shown some questionable judgement, but if I had a say in the matter, I would trade for Kobe in a minute!

Just imagine on the break, Cat on one wing, Kobe on the other, Steve in the middle. That's the best collection of perimeter talent in the league, with Mooch coming off the bench.

    I'd do that trade.

    Kobe's only 22 and Francis is 23.

That backcourt could own the league for a decade easily.

You guys are too hard on Kobe, you have to remember he's still REALLY young and has alot of upside and maturing left to do.

    Cat's numbers vs Kobe's numbers

Kobe averages 7 more shots/game but he also has a higher shooting % than Cat.

Kobe gets to the line more than Cat and has a better FT %.

Kobe has higher blocks, steals, and assists numbers than Cat.

Cat's advantages are he shoots the 3 better and commits one less foul/game.

Don't buy into the Kobe is a ballhog hype, most great players tend to be ballhogs.

If there wasn't the loyalty factor to consider, I'd do it. But Cat gave up money to come here, because he likes Steve, Rudy, and Houston. I wouldn't want Houston to betray that trust. Besides, Steve might leave without his buddy, especially if we disposed of him in that fashion.

Still, it would be worth it except for that. I think that Bryant will probably eventually be the best player in the NBA. He's the complete package: shooting, driving, ball control, defense, size... Kobe has it all.

He's young. He's mature. There's nothing ot indicate he's really a bad guy like Rider... just young and a bit arrogant... which success at his age is likely to do to anyone.

I would do this trade, and then using Kobe as trade bait to get Sac town to send Webber over to us. I am with a few others in this thread in that, even though I know Kobe has great game, I just don't like the guy, and would rather have a superstar in the frontcourt and a superstar in the backcourt, than trying to distribute the ball between two guys with similar games.

If Kobe was on this team, everyone elses points would plummet. The kid shoots more than Shaq. Does anyone think that he would let any Rocket player shoot as much as Shaq does?

How do you figure? Even if we renounce Hakeem and Bullard, we'd still only have $6.8M of cap space if we made the deal that you propose. That's just over half of what you'll need to get Webber. Remember, Kobe will make $11.2M next year.

Kobe-- not thanks. We're not that deep to give up two starters and a lottery pick for Kobe. You would have just contributed to a second Laker dynasty.

Of course he has higher assist and block numbers than Cat.

He has Harper, we have Francis, He has Fox, We have Shandon.

Mo, Dream, and Kenny are all above average passing big men.

And at 6'7 with those long arms at the two.

He is bound to pick up at least a couple blocks a game.

The Lakers would take nothing less than Francis for Kobe.

Yeah I'd do the trade in a heartbeat, then send his Royalty to Boston for Paul Pierce or Denver for McDyess, or wait for it...Vancouver for SAR. Then Shandon can't b**** anymore!

    WOuldn't that be fun :p

I agree, the Lakers would not offer Kobe for Mobley, Taylor, and the 13th pick, they would want to get a superstar in return.

I don't understand your point. Kobe plays the same position as Cat so if Kobe blocks more shots than Cat, then that's a plus for Kobe.

    I just reported the stats.

I'd do this trade only if there's a franchise in Buffalo or another real small-market. I'd pay anything to see Kobe languish without attention.

Jim1965, I don't like Carter and I don't think he'd be very good for the team.

Raven, our chances of getting Weber are the same with or without a Kobe trade. S our choices could be to get Webber while keeping Cuttino or getting Webber and losing Cuttino/#1. I'll take the former.
