When I first saw the NY/PHX deal, I thought it's a steal for NY. Somehow I think a lot of fans and even PHX fans think it's a logical one for both teams. I always think that we have a very similar situation with the suns. So just for argument sake, would u do the same deal with NY? Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, Maciej Lampe, the rights to Milos Vujanic, two first-round draft picks and cash for SF, Motay and Weatherspoon(I know it's stupid to trade him back to NY but IMHO he's more overpaid than cato) Yao/Cato McDyess/Lampe JJ/Boki Mobley/Piat Ward/Eisley We will only have 33M worth contracts after this season. It seems Milos is very high on a lot of scouts and we will have some draft picks. But there is no way we can make the playoffs this year. Any idea? P.S. This is just for argument sake and please dont turn into SF bashing thread.
The Suns were going nowhere, so it made sense for them. We stepped into the sixth spot with last night's win, and have the same record as the team in the fifth spot. So, no, I wouldn't do it. It's a completely different situation.
Phoenix has the luxary of having Marion and Stoudamire to fall back on with Marbury gone. If we traded Francis and Taylor we would have Mobley and Yao. At this stage of the game, not as good a scenario. I am not sure I would want to deal Francis for cap room and picks as the Suns did with Marbury. I personally feel that cap room and picks can be very enticing at first but unless you have the right "environment" and a good GM, then your cap room and picks aren't worth a whole lot. It can be very overrated and be VERY risky! On paper the idea of HAVING the picks and cap room is exciting. But the picks can be a crap shoot and sometimes the best FAs are tough to get. So what are you left with? A bunch of mid level mediocre players? Does that equal an "all star"? For the Suns, the risk is worth taking because financially they are having problems. It sort of forces their hand a bit. But if they did not have those "financial" problems, you have to wonder if they would have made those moves?
unless we knew for a fact that we were gonna sign kobe with that cap space, or ever wallace, i wouldnt do it.
I would do it if Rox can completely hire Sun's scouting department and its GM. With 3 1st round picks, Lampe and the Euro PG, Rox will look great in 3 years when both Yao and Cat mature. But I would not do it if Rox still has the same scouting department and CD. CD could trade the newly acquired 3 1st rounder for another EG, and sign some no-name at $6mil for 5 years. LOL!!!
Phoenix has been great in draft picks!!! They need a big man to win, they need a center. Marbury can't win for them, and they also have got these cap space. The Suns come out as a winner. The Knicks are stuck with all these long-term contracts. If Rox makes this trade, Rox will suck because our GM will trade the 3 1st round picks for some high regarded pick. If it does not work out, most Rox fans are so NICE to give CD a free pass because of so-called 20/20 vision. Oh, as for the cap space, I am sure the Rox GM will find some Moochies to fill the cap and sign them into long term contracts.
no i woudn't do it, it is a very bad trade for the rockets. i cannot understand why the suns did this trade, the only way it makes sense if you know mcdyess stays healthy and reaches his old level. but i do not think he will,
1) The Suns-Knicks trade was about money. Salaries due to Stephon and Penny are $27 mil (03-04), $29 (04), $32(05), $18(06), $20(07), $22 mil(08) Salaries due to Steve and MoT are $18 mil(03-04), $20(04), $22 (05), $24(06), $15(07), $16(08) The trade would not have been as good for the Rockets. 2) After this season, the Suns' salary goes from $63 to $34 mil. If we trade Steve and MoT, our salary goes from $51 to $31. Both will have cap room to go after Kobe?!!
Nah. I wouldn't trade Francis for those guys. The Rockets are trying to compete this year. At first blush, it's a steal for New York. Marbury is one of the best players in the game. After a little consideration, though, I don't think it's as bad as it seems. The first round pick is unprotected, Lampe could be a player, and they get major luxury salary relief. Plus, gambling on McDyess may pay off. I'm not sure I would have done it (Marbury is just too good), but it's not a horrible deal, either.
Suns will let McDyess walk after the season is over. Suns has Amare, no need for McDyess. If McDyess wants to stay, he has to play backup and be paid cheap. Marion is their SF, Johnson, hopefully their SG. Suns can EASILY get a good PG. Suns never lack good PG, they have the eye for it. What the Suns need is a center. Can they land one from 3 1st round picks or from Lampe or trade their 1st round picks for a center?
No. While I would trade Francis, I would not trade him for any package NY could offer. Even I, an on-the-record Steve basher, think he has far more value than anything NY has.
Suns payroll situation is worse than the Rockets, but this trade illustrates why signing bad players to long-term contracts is a serious impediment. I think the Colangelos may sell the teams soon. Maybe some internet billionaire will come by and buy the Diamondback/Suns organization from them. I wouldn't be surprised to see Randy Johnson get dumped very soon. I think Marion is going to get traded. Les Alexander is making some money off Yao, so the situation in Houston is not as bad. I don't know how much Colangelo is making off Amare. Sporting franchises are businesses too which means they are in essence supposed to be moneymakers.
No I would rather make out like NY and Have Marberry and Hardaway in exchange for a few bench players and a couple of draft picks.
with 3 first round picks the might take a shot on UNC“s raymond felton or whatever his name is... 3 picks in the first round and jefferson on the board - those were the days...
