Yes. Nothing short of a finals appearance can be accepted.

They have to operate as if Artest is going to be here for only a single season. They MUST win a ring

If we don't make it to the conference finals Morey has to play Sophie's Choice between Yao and Tmac. Sorry, but the experiment will officially fail (no matter what circumstance may arise, injury, bad calls, etc) if the Rockets don't at least make the conference finals.

Yeah I agree because I feel he is a one-and-go, except if we win.

Even then, we don't have bird rights so it's tricky resigning him for the money he wants. Knowing him he'll either eat our entire MLE. Knowing Artest he probably wants at least a 60 mil 4 year contract. I don't see us being able to match that.

That is negative. However, on the bright side, if he wants money, he will give 100% during this season.

What if Batum, Darrell Arthur, and Greene all become all-stars? Trading away all of them, along with a first round pick, for Artest would be considered losing the offseason. Artest is great, but he's not an all-star anymore.

not really since all of those players were traded for each other and we got dorsey and a second round pick next year along with artest.

it wasnt like we were going to have batum, arthur and greene all on this team and then traded all 3 to get artest, it was just going to be one of them. Also to say all 3 may become all-stars especially in the west is a stretch to say the least when there are a lot of great players who are left off the team each year

and i disagree that artest isnt an all-star anymore its just that the west is so stacked with talented forwards that its going to be hard for him to make it in the first place coupled with being on a mediocre team did not help his status either along with his past rep. If artest has a similar season this year as he did last year where I believe (but could be wrong) he put up well above his career averages in every major category. i wouldnt be surprised if he came close to making the team this year with the added exposure that he (and the rockets) are going to get.

this off season was a success we had a first round pick, LLE and MLE and were able to turn that into Brent Barry, Ron Artest, Joey Dorsey, a presumably high 2nd round pick next year, Pat Ewing Jr, dj strawberry. We still have our MLE and lost bobby J and next years first. That is an amazing off season if you ask me.

    the offseason gets an A++++++++++

the season would be a failure if the rockets do not at least make the WCF imo

i would not consider the off season a failure, but the season as a whole would and should be considered a failure if we don't make it out of the first round, or ideally in to the conference finals (3rd round)

If we just make it into the 2nd round like with a 4-3 win,and get thrashed 4-0 in the 2nd round,I would consider it a failure.

I agree that anything short of the conference finals should be deemed a failure, and theoretically the logical course of action would be to end the Yao/McGrady marriage. If it (success) doesn't happen this year, it will never happen. However, Morey won't go that route, nor should he. A 30 year old aging McGrady in 2009 in addition to the flexibility his renounced rights will bring in the summer of 2010 is far more valuable to this team than whatever overpaid $.50-on-the-dollar Michael Reddesque garbage they would receive back in a trade.

McGrady is here to stay until 2010.

Since Morey came on board, the Rockets have traded away a lot of young talent so they could "win now". Even the team's motto was "it's time". They don't even have a first round pick next year.

Anything less than a WCF appearance will be a disaster, and if they get booted - once again - out of the first round, the entire team should be dismantled and rebuilt from the ground up.

any season is technically a failure if you don't win a championship. i really hate the "we should disband if" at any cost though. If deals are available that improve the club by all means ... but that should be the attitude even if the season were a success.

Everyone thinks because we got Artest we need to win it all. But I thought we had a real shot before we got Artest. We were playing as good as any elite team before Yao went down. And we added to solid backup for Tmac in Barry and some muscle in Dorsey. I expected Scola Landry and Brooks to improve and the biggest impact would be another year under Adelman. So Artest was just some more icing on the cake but not necessary for us to succeed.

I would not say its a "failure" as you state in your poll, but it would be very disappointing given we won 55 games last year (partially without Yao) and added Ron Artest in the offseason.

But if they move on past the first round, maybe
    1. get knocked off in a close seven game series in the 2nd round
    2. or win the second round and lose in the WCF

I would be happy with that, not satisfied, but happy knowing that we made progress.

To me nothing short of a title is a failure. We might only have 2 more years of T-Mac and Yao together.
