Keep in mind they want a caliber player in exchange for Yao's rights....Now lets break this down: You think Moochies gonna wanna go to China? Hell No or wait how about Mo Taylor? Double Hell No so I guess that leaves Cato and Cato will tell China where to go. You guys wanna give up Griffin for YO-YO Ming? Sounds to me like slavery..By the way Cato pack your bags because we traded you to China and you have no choice in the matter. I guess next China will want a percentage of ticket sales from the Rockets. I wish I could Draw good because I would make a political cartoon out of this.... China Holding a Gun to Les's head while Ming is paraded around the room with a collar around his neck and China holding the leash. Someone artsy please draw this!
I think trading a player like the Sharks appear to be requesting is out of the question. I'm still confident all this can be worked out.
These are the same group of atheletes who shape up when GMs threaten sending them to Canada! I think J. R. Rider is a free agent this summer...
Hey let's send Langhi. He needs some pt. However, I'm not sure he'll be physical enough for the CBA. Maybe send Terrence Morris. Maybe they can teach him to shoot. Hey let's use the Shanghai Sharks as our minor league team. Wouldn't that chape Mark Cuban, Jerry West's and the rest of their asses?
IMHO, there are many borderline players who would seriously consider going for a reasonable length of time. $120k for a season in the NBDL or $2m/yr for a summer in Shanghai?
EXACTLY! No one's talking about sending Eddie Griffin to China to play for a year. No one's talking about sending a NBA starter, or even 1st 2 guys off the bench, to China. But for the 11th, 12th on the bench... the guys who're always one bad practice away from being waived, or the guy who's going to find his roster spot taken up by Yao Ming... ... his two options might be: - Play in China for a year, with part of his contract subsidized by the Houston Rockets (or the NBA)... to the tune of $1-2 million. - Being waived, and forced to find a job in the NBDL playing in Wichita. Another note, I think it's pretty obvious now Troy isn't an uninterested informer telling us about what he heard Steve say... he's got an agenda, he doesn't want Yao on this team, and he's trying different tactics. He first tells us Francis wants out (and then Francis says nothing, anywhere, including the Last Word interview Troy was touting early on), and now he reminds us about this... tomorrow, I'm guessing Troy has a thread about the weakness of Shawn Bradley.
Ok, it's probably worth posting this one more time: According to one scout, teams with high picks can see through the negative talk around potential top pick center Yao Ming and the obligations he has to his home country, China. It's true Yao will have to give up part of his salary to the government, <b>but several rumors -- like the one claiming the team that drafts Yao will have to give up a player from its roster to obtain Yao -- are hoaxes. . . . ,</i> http://www.sportingnews.com/voices/sean_deveney/20020520.html
I am pretty sure that the NBA CBA rules out trading a player to another league. In particular, a NBA player's contract is technically with the league office. Unless the Sharks become a NBA team, a trade is not in the realm of possibilites.
