The guy is a genius, not necessarily on the field but in real life. He's played pretty well thru his college days at FSU but is projected as a 5th to 6th rounder. Would you be willing to take a chance and target this guy even if there is a chance he heads off to be a neurologist and leaves you in the dust? He has great work ethic and can improve a team with more than one way, imo, intelligence on and off the field. He would more than likely also be a gem in the film room. Here's an analysis of him on his Pro Day: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1116563
I always thought it was kinda funny how occasionally a doctor will slip into the NFL ranks (Okam, Rolle)... it's like, dude... wtf are you thinking? You not stupid, you KNOW that football will WRECK you permanently... go be a doctor... stop screwing around.
I'd draft him no problem. If he leaves after a few years so be it. You're not spending a 1st rounder on him.
Just because he is smart doesnt mean he will be a good football player. You want guys who committed to FOOTBALL. EAT, SLEEP and DRINK IT.
Play football 5 years, and probably be okay, especially if you aren't a starter. Of course Neurologists make plenty of money themselves, so it isn't like going into the NFL means a ton more money unless he becomes very good.
I think Okam was contemplating law school, not med school. Samkon Gado is another one that was set to become a doctor once his career finishes. I don't blame them for riding out the NFL, though. You make great money even at the league minimum and get time off a few months each year. If you're good enough to stick on a roster for a few years you're probably good enough to secure a contract in the millions. That's probably better than struggling financially through law school/med school.
What's his wonderlic score? Genius should transfer over to that test, but that doesn't mean anything if Fitzpatrick gets near perfect and sucks, while VY is barely literate and sucks less.
You need intuition to be a great cornerback. Guys who are extremely studious often lack that trait and that's the issue with Rolle. I think the scouting reports in the first post are overrating him. Also neurologists don't start making money until their 30's and normally have a lot of debt to pay off. I'd play CB in my 20's and do some heavy hitting while I can.
Football is a dangerous, violent sport... injuries affect people for the rest of their lives. It's not a joke.
