Just speculation, but since Phoenix got Q Richardson and Nash this offseason, I wonder if we could get Joe Johnson from them. Still very young and played some PG last year and his stats were solid, although I wish he was better from 3 land. The thing I like is that he is 6'7-6'8 and can actually play PG, SG and SF...very versatile athlete. He is still under his rookie contract, so we wouldn't be able to send MoT or 'spoon in return since they make too much, but I would do the trade exception and a 1st for him.
As I recall the Magic wanted Joe Johnson as part of the deal from the Suns in an attempt to deal TMac to Phoenix but the Suns would not part with Johnson. This leads me to believe that the Suns have no enterest in trading Johnson.
he is as inconsistent as they come. he was a big guard who had some point skills, never worked out with him becoming a penny type player. hence they get barbosa, and vujanic, now nash. marion has been in every suns trade rumor out in the desert...leaving one to believe that the suns would move jj to the 3. and play nash and q at the same time in the backcourt.
Hey Crash, I do remember the Magic's demands, but I don't think they were willing to depart w/ that much talent for McGrady who said that the only team he would sign an extension for after being traded was the rockets. The reason I asked this, I wanted to know what people thought of him. I honestly haven't seen him play too much, I just remember during his draft year, I was hoping he'd slide to us and that they said he could play a big PG and he ended up doing that last year. But so far, it doesn't appear he'd be a better option than Antonio Daniels.
He's the type I suppose I might let handle point duties when the starter was out, but no way do I start him there. He's an excellent off guard, however. Good enough to where Phoenix wouldn't part with him just for a late first-rounder and cap space. I really can't imagine he's on Houston's radar right now. Daniels is definitely the best option we're actually in a position to acquire right at the moment.
There's simply no combination of players on the Rockets, short of Yao/T-Mac, that are worth a Joe Johnson. Even if the Suns are looking to get rid of him(and they'd much rather get rid of Mario first), they can find much better offers than some combination of Boki, JJ, Gaines, and Lue.
i don't think they are trading him, he blew up last year and wouldn't even include him in the tmac deal. He's not a pg by the way, he's a shooting guard.
I think if they trade anyone, it will be Marion and they would be looking for a starting center, which we don't have.
Hmm. This got me to thinking. What about this: First round pick TE for Dampier Sign and Trade at a starting salary of 6.9 million That's the first trade because this wouldn't work as a three-way deal. Next before the 48 hours is up, because if we'd have a 48 hour window to combine Dampier with another player and trade him, otherwise we'd have to wait 60 days. Dampier Pike Griffin for Marion Looking at their salaries, this would barely fit into the within 15% to match salaries. I think this would work out for everyone. GS would get a free #1 pick, and Phoenix would move out a max-contract to get a center. It solidifies their lineup and would make room for Amare and Johnson's contracts. And I think it would be a good deal for the rockets. Yes it would mean that the Rox would skyrocket into the "big spenders" territory because we would be actually adding more than the TE. But this team would be ready to win, right now. Sign Jones and a Keon Clark or something and we'd have a lineup like this: Jones / Lue TMac / JJ Marion / JJ / Boki Howard / MoT Yao / Clark I think that lineup is worth the financial gamble.
We dont have anything Phoenix wants for JJ. My gut tells me that the Suns trade Marion first before they make any moves cutting into the heart of their team. They cant afford a max Marion with a near Max Nash and a soon to be Max Stoudamire. I think it is clear that Nash, Stoudamire and Q are the core of the team and where they are going to put their money.
I don't understand where people are getting "they're looking to trade Marion" from. Marion is an All Star, and Olympian. He's probably the second best SF in the entire league. You're saying the Suns would artehr hold on to JJ than Marion? The problem with the T-Mac trade was not that they wanted to hold on to JJ at all costs, but that they wanted to offer EITHER JJ or Marion, but Marion is the only one that would work capwise. Here's the most likely scenario: The Suns are not stupid and will not Nash play too much. They are also not stupid and know that Q doesn't have the best handles in the world. So they need a damn good backup at both the SG and PG positions, and they have exactly that with JJ. I think Nash will play 35 minutes at PG, Q will play 33 minutes at SG, and JJ will play 33 minutes at PG(13), SG(15) and SF(5). I think JJ is available for the right price. But the right price is probably a damn good C or a supersub type. If he gets moved, I say it's for Dampier, if that's even possible. and here I was hoping the GM of the Suns created this thread when I read the title...
i like his game but hes not what we're looking for, he can be pretty inconsistent, and definetly not a true pt, more of a jalen rose type "point guard"
