I've thought about this and it seems to be more true as the year unfolds...Not only do you have the two epic "ring" movies happening this year, you had the superb and award winning: Black Hawk Down. ...which in my mind goes down as the most enjoyable "war" movie I have ever seen...You got Spiderman, which has always been a childhood favorite, ...Scooby- Doo looks like a funny, but even a bigger funny: Austin Powers 3, wow!

...Then you have: episode 2 (Star Wars), which I think will be awesome...I have always been a big Star Wars fan since being a kid and the wait is finally coming to an end to catch the next to last one...then isn't there this movie with M. Night, about crop circles happening this summer,...I really enjoyed: Sixth Sense,...as well as Unbreakable,...(just don't tell Rocketman95 that I really, and truthfully enjoyed the latter...;) ...just not as much.)

I know I am forgeting some cool upcoming movies, ...but I have to honestly say 2002 is shaping up as probably the best movie year to me,...any thoughts?

If we are talking "Summer Movies" I think of the summer of 1989 as the best:

    Field of Dreams
    Dead Calm
    Dead Poets Society
(These 3 were late spring, I think)

    Batman
    The Abyss
    Do the Right Thing
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
    Ghostbusters II
    Parenthood
    When Harry Met Sally
    Honey I Shrunk the Kids

There were also some not so great sequels that summer:

    Karate Kid III
    A Lethal Weapon Sequel
A Star Trek Sequel that was truly awful.

I am probably missing a few here.

i thought they were releasing one ring movie a year; every x-mas? also, black hawk down was a 2001 release.

but in terms of summer movies, it's shaping up very nicely (though, i hope you're kidding about scooby doo... you were kidding, right?).

I haven't opened my Entertainment Weekly's Summer Preview yet, but it does look promising.

I think 1999 was pretty kickass though.

Anything could be better than last year . . .

This does look like a VERY exciting movie year. So does 2003.

It's a little early to be calling 2002 "The Best", dontcha think?

Who's to say Spiderman and the others don't suck? I've gambled before on anticipated movies and lost.

1999 is easily my top choice. With such films as Fight Club, High Fidelity, The Matrix, Magnolia, Being John Malkovich, Dogma, Office Space, The Sixth Sense, American Beauty, Go, Girl, Interrupted, American Beauty, The Insider, The Iron Giant, Three Kings, The Green Mile, The Cider House Rules, Election and the much underrated Ghost Dog.

Ugh, never go on a climbing excursion and then post. Oh how my glorious charts and lists have collapsed in such disgraceful manner, it could have spewed from the powerBook of the laziest hollywood hack.

nope! not kidding.......starring Freddie Prinze Jr. & Mathew Lillard as Shaggy. that casting alone makes it intersting. i can't find the female cast members listing right now, someone else may have them.

I think 2003 might be better

T3 : Rise of the Machines
    The Alamo
    The Matrix Reloaded
    The Matrix Revolutions
    Bad Boys 2
    Xmen II
The Lord of the Rings : The Return of the King
Charlies Angels 2 : Halo ( I liked the first one)
