Because I'm wondering... I have a guy in mind that could do no worse then Moochie with his defense and turnovers, but he can shoot a hell of alot better... the small white boy from THE Masters College.... Mike Penberthy... or as my good friend Wally says it.. Punch-the-Birdy...

    What do you boys think?

i'm not sure that's saying a lot, though....

seriously, though, if you can fool someone into taking that overgrown, overpaid chia pet off of our roster, penberthy would be a nice 3rd guard....assuming we pick up a starting pg this offseason, and steve will be the starting 2/backup 1.

    i dunno about the shooting...

the turnovers ARE the main problem. i'm not sure what the TO stats are (sorry... too lazy right now to look the up), but they disrupt the rockets offense.

it's always at the most inopportune time that he turns it over... beginning of quarters, ending of quarters, after a the rockets score consecutive baskets, etc. these lead to 4 to 5 point turnarounds for the us. they're streak busters and momentum crushers. anybody that close to the ground should be able to take care of the ball better.

I wouldn't mind keeping Moochie if he didn't run around in circles with the ball for the first twenty seconds of the shot clock...

    Let's figure this one out:

If Moochie could only shoot.........ah, but he has some redeeming qualities:

    1) super defensive player

    2) highly skilled at clock management/court awareness, and hands down the league leader in # of dribbles/possession

Well maybe I've overlooked a few. We really screwed up with his contract. Without that, he'd be on a bus back in the CBA. I can't name a 3rd guard on any decent team who is worse than he is.

Moochie seems OK when he is playing way up tempo and is motoring along. In a game situation he seems to brainlock, getting caught with the ball dribbling and dribbling and ... but, put just a second on the clock and that fellow can shoot the rock.

    What happened to his game?

I seem to remember that Boki Nachbar said during the course of the season that Moochie was the best Rockets three-point shooter in practice. He would hit them one right after the other consistently. I have noticed that when Moochie shoots and doesn't always try to make something spectacular happen, he does well.

Maybe we should be calling for Moochie to shoot more, not less. At least three pointers, that is. Just my two cents.

speaking of ol' matty, dont we still have his ass under contract for two more years? lets bring him back. even now he cant be much worse than moochie and at the least it might even light a fire under moochies ass to start playing better.

 You know.....that's not a bad idea. Hell, we're paying him no matter who he plays for anyway, right? He couldn't be any worse than Moochie and he damn sure wouldn't go around trying to be Francis with all the dribbling and dumb shots.

    Not bad!

You talk about turnovers! Didnt Steve LEAD THE LEAGUE in that category? But he do turn it over quite a bit for the few minutes he plays ok so never mind!

Mooch's problem is exactly that he can't shoot at a high percentage from the outside. The defense knows this so they back off from him. It makes it extremely difficult to drive by someone who is waiting for you to do just that. What compounds Mooch's problem is that being the PG, he thinks he needs to create something, hence he tries and tries to dribble past his man who is continually backing off and keeps Mooch from the basket. Mooch can't drive by his man, no double team is required to stop Mooch so no other Rockets are open. At the end, with no other options, Mooch has to put up a difficult shot that he has little chance of making.

If Mooch could shoot, it would be an entirely different ball game. But then again, if pigs could fly .... :)

I think we'd all want to keep Moochie if he could shoot or get his teammates a shot before the 24 second clock expires.

Moochie would be awesome on the And 1 tour, there is no place for him in the NBA.
Moochie Norris= Turbo(mascot). He is a marketing ploy

Not a shooter, not a passer, undersized

The only thing I like about him is that he plays with heart & fire, which is more than I can say for some of the players on the Rockets....i.e Eddie "Rockabye" Griffin

We should keep Moochie if the NBA would only increase the shot clock to 48 seconds. And also triple the value of made baskets made by players with dreadlocks. :D

I think they should multiply points scored for a basket by the number of dribbles the player takes before he shoots. Moochie would be a prerenial all-star.

There was a reason why Mike Penberthy was given limited minutes by the World Champions LA Lakers and finally cut from the team. He simply wasn't good enough.

I like the idea of bringing Maloney back..I mean, you're talkin about a guy who had averages of 8 ppg, 3-4 apg and shot 40% from 3...he knows Rudy's system and he doesnt make mistakes...its not a bad idea
