Suppose walmart decided they would no longer carry microsoft products and so they decided to short msft stock and then announced they would elusively carry macs instead?
I'm not savvy with the law, but I don't see how it's illegal. They can sell/not sell whatever they want, ya?
This. Because of the fact that their actions were a direct cause of the the MSFT stock going down which is what would probably happen, it would definitely be insider trading.
Illegal. "walmart" cant short microsoft's stock. You'd have individuals who work for Walmart that would be shorting it because they knew that their employer is about to stop selling Microsoft products. Pretty easy insider trading case if you ask me.
By elusively carrying the Macs I assume you mean hiding them in odd places. Like in the frozen food section. No, not illegal - just fun.
