Say you work for minimum wage at a local drug store, and you've been there for 10 months. You're the only one not trained to work in the pharmacy, and even someone they hired after you is trained. Say that the company tells you every month that they'll train you in a week or so. Then, they hire two more people, and train them THAT WEEK in the front end, AND in pharmacy. Would you quit? I think it's the final straw for me. Once I find a new job, I'm out of there. If I work for minimum wage, I should be able to at least have fun at my job, and no be treated partially.
Your first mistake was agreeing to work for minimum wage. You should have negotiated a higher salary with these people.
If it walks like a duck... and if it quacks like a duck... it's probably a duck. They ain't gonna train you. Lower your expectations, or leave the job.
Well, I don't think my expectations can get any lower. Good advice though. If I'm working for minimum wage, I'm gonna find a job a little more exciting or fun than this.
I don't have the balls for that, to put it bluntly. I'd be too scared of not finding another job. Otherwise, I would.
That's the spirit! Get a job at Hollywood video, or something. A lifeguard job pays well considering you sit on your butt all day (though it may be hard to get that job).
I want a job at Hollywood Video or Blockbuster or something, but I don't turn 18 for another month(and a day...if you're sending presents). Monday, if I don't find anything good, I'll wait until I'm 18, and then put in the applications there.
Well another option for you might be to talk to your manager about the reason you're not being trained. If it's something you can easily take care of, then no worries. But if it's for no good reason whatsoever, let him/her know that you're committed to the job and you don't necessarily want to just up and quit, but that you would be compelled to find another job if they don't train you as promised.
Can anyone work in the pharmacy? I thought you had to take a state licensing test to be a technician. Maybe they trained those people cause they have that license. They may also have a college degree and be studying towards taking the pharmacy school exam. Still doesn't excuse their treatment of you. You are probably too young to be working in the pharmacy. They should be honest with you.
As mentioned above, I would ask why. Theres no shame in asking. Unfortunately, this will go on whereever you go, its all politics. I've trained people at my job and they are now my supervisors, go figure. As far as I know, no matter what field u go in, its pretty much the same everywhere.
maybe the reason why they wouldn't train you is because you ARE making minimum wage. after you get trained, wouldn't you want to be paid MORE than minimum wage? i sure as hell would. i'm thinking they are a few steps ahead of you in the planning department.
"Say you work for minimum wage..." _____ If this doesn't do it for you then nothing will ~ the 'living wage' at this time in Houston is about $8.50 (est). living wage
Eddie was snubbed Look for a better job and give them 2 weeks notice. It's not quitting, when you take advantage of a better opportunity.
Yup, you probably wrote minimum wage for your asking salary. If you want to quit/get fired, start asking your co-workers how much they get
You aren't talking about the guy who bought that lemon of a car, are you? Come to think of it, EddieWasSnubbed's posting style reminds me a lot of Looney Tune!
Forget WALGREENS, forget CVS. Work in the government or as a civil servant, I hear that's where the REAL MONEY is, baby!
