Some people in the Larry Bird thread say the NBA is better now than in the '80s.

So, would the '86 Rockets beat the current Heat?

[edit] of course, I'm talking about a Finals series.

These are the people that did the Bird thread:

86 team would definitely beat the Heat.
Chris Bosh would foul out in the first quarter.

Hell yes! I only wish we had that team today so we could prove it.

The Heat have no Center. The twin towers would demolish them.

Not to mention the rest of what might have been the deepest Rockets team ever, especially when you include John Lucas, who got a head start on being tossed out of the league after just 65 games. Reid, Lloyd, Wiggins, Petersen, McCray, Lucas... any of them could start for this Rockets team, and the team would be better for it.

I don't know, it seems the 80's teams play at a slower pace where they jump straight up and takes forever to comeback down as today's era everything needs a replay.

Had a better PG and of course front court. Those guys played rough and were tough. Chris bosh and whatever scrub center they have wouldn't be even comparable to dream and Ralph.

ehhhh i wouldn't say they could all start for this rockets team... Lowry is better than Reid IMO. Patterson is better than Peterson IMO.

I am glad u didnt add alan leavell to this list though

Reid was a wing, not a point guard, who played some point when he had to. John Lucas was a better point than Lowry, in my opinion. Petersen in 1986 was a better player than Patterson is today. He was also a 4/5, and played a lot at center.

Jesus Christ. Miami would maybe win only 1 game in that series.

86 Olajuwon couldn't drop 65ppg on Miami's frontcourt like a more mature Olajuwon could. 86 Olajuwon probably gets thrown out of 2-3 games too since he 86 Olajuwon doesn't take **** from anybody.

If the game was played with the old rules (the proper rules) as opposed to the ballerina princess rules of the modern NBA, the Rockets win. Otherwise, Heat in 6.

Twin Towers would go bonkers on the Heat frontcourt, so yes.

The current Heat are constructed roughly like the Jordan/Pippen Bulls teams, who the Rockets consistently beat because the Bulls could not guard Dream.
