So, Denver, if they trade Melo to NJ, is trying to pry Batum from Portland with Devin Harris.

Simple question. Would Portland prefer Devin Harris or Aaron Brooks?

Personally, I think Brooks fits them better. He can gladly play off the ball with Roy whereas Harris is more of a handle like Miller is. Roy wants to be the PG and I personally think he wants this role because it will prolong his career and make it easier for him to continue to be effective since his athleticism and finishing ability is out the window with his injury. I would think Portland would want Brooks over Harris.

Brooks is a local kid they would want him just for the marketing purposes alone

I agree, AB fits the team and the community. Plus, doubt they move Batum for Harris.

They already have an AB clone named Patty Mills.

I can assure you that's not happening!!

I remember there were some reports on draft night that Portland refused to trade him for a top 5 pick in the draft (let alone Devin Harris). That's how much they value him, his pretty close to an untouchable in Portland.

But to answer your question, I think they would prefer Brooks. His younger and on a smaller contract(for the time being). And like other's have mention, his a hometown kid, that alone would make him a their choice over Harris.

With that said I would trade Aaron Brooks for Luke Babbitt and 2011 Portland 1st rd pick...

Is Roy really even worth considering in so far as Portland's long term plans go? He's talking about having an experimental surgery to replace the meniscus in his knees that no active professional athlete has every undergone. I feel like even if Roy makes a successful comeback from that, he'll no longer be a focal point for the team and what he wants will be irrelevant. It'll be about what is best for the team.

They are stuck with him. Nobody is going to touch his contract in trade. They're gonna have to run him at the point as a playmaker/distrubutor/shooter. They have no choice. And if he's so bad that he can't get on the floor, that's all the more reason they need a high-scoring shooter like Brooks.

Supposedly the Blazers are hot to trot about Harris and might flip Andre Miller for him some kind of way.

Well sure. Anything to get rid of Miller. But if they knew they could get Brooks, it might change how they feel about getting Harris.

I don't think they are anxious to get rid of Miller. Without him, they would be deep in lottery-land. His contract is only $7 million and has a team option for next year. He's a pretty good PG.

They are deciding if/when to give up on the season and how much they want in return. It isn't a matter of getting rid of him. Brandon Roy is done. Patty Mills has really improved lately, but he's gonna be a bench guy forever in the NBA. Having him backup another smallish PG like AB doesn't make sense IMO, but maybe it does to them.
