Would this be enough to get Wallace ? Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (10.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.4 minutes) C Kelvin Cato (5.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 0.7 apg in 29.0 minutes) Houston receives: SF Rasheed Wallace (16.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 40.0 minutes) Change in team outlook: +0.3 ppg, -5.5 rpg, and +1.3 apg. Portland trades: SF Rasheed Wallace (16.4 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 40.0 minutes) Portland receives: PF Maurice Taylor (10.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.1 apg in 11 games) C Kelvin Cato (5.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 0.7 apg in 17 games) Change in team outlook: -0.3 ppg, +5.5 rpg, and -1.3 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED It's a gamble that would pay off. Yao / Meechie Wallace / Ford Jackson / Nachbar Cat / Pike Steve / Moochie This lineup would put the scary in the WEST.
You could probably have Wallace just for Cato at this point. He is that bad of an influence on his team.
DaDakota had a good point a while ago that the footspeed in the front court needs to be improved. The current win streak doesn't change that fact. I think this would help in that respect. However, it looks like Portland is looking for model citizens now to break up the jailblazer attitude, I wonder if they will take Taylor. Also, they have a bunch of big bodies on that team already. Rasheed is a free agent right? We can get him for cheaper in the off season.
Taylor had the drug bust a while back and the contract hold-out with the Clippers, but I'd still call him a model citizen. He certainly doesn't have an attitude problem. He's laid-back, cool, friendly, charismatic. Not really an image problem, especially compared to Wallace. However, I think Portland has signalled that they are doing a full or semi- rebuild when they traded Wells for a draft pick. If I'm not mistaken, Wallace is an FA this offseason. I'm betting they'll be looking for some kind of S&T then for picks and/or young talent. I don't think Taylor and Cato would be sufficient and I don't think we'd give up what they'd really want for him.
No way Portland would do that. MoT is the last type of player they want and I don't think they would want Cato back, especially since the rockets tapped him with a 7M/year contract. They could get more quality players for Sheed.
Wallace is not the man in Portland anymore. He should not cost the Rox both Cato and MoT if the Rox really wanted him.
Portland is adamant about not taking back long term contracts from marginal players. They would not do that deal. I am not so sure Wallace WILL be traded. I think they just want his cap money, will let him go in the off season unless they can get quality for him, but I dont see that happening.
Deuce, Agreed. What I have heard from Portland fans is that the new mgmt would rather let Sheed's contract expire and get nothing than take back a marginal overpaid player. They are waiting for their big money players ie (Stoudamire, Davis, Wallace, etc) to all clear off the cap. Then in about two yrs, they will have TONS of cap flexibility to enable them to build around Zach Randolph. Also, do we even really want Rasheed? I personally am sick of players getting themselves suspended for their off court activities and causing a distraction to the team. I would MUCH rather have a team of solid players that can be depended on than a bunch of crazy headcases like Portland has. Eddie getting suspended at a critical time last season really hurt the Rockets post season push. If you want to make a trade, atleast get someone that makes sense, not another potential distraction to the team. As far as Im concerned, whether or not this team becomes consistent offensively is up to Steve Francis. He is taking the most shots of anyone, he is handling the ball the most and really has the hugest impact on this team's offense thus far. Right now, he is having his worst season of his career (41% from the field and sub 30% from the arc are simply unacceptable) to along with his lowest ever Ast to TO ratio of 1.39. When/if Steve starts playing better then this team will start playing better.
I would love to have Wallace, even being a "cancer", he almost single-handly carried Portland against Dallas last season.
maybe the question should be, do the rockets bite on this deal, i think cato is a very good player, not a great scorer, but we dont need another player who wants to shoot all the time, we got steve and cat, i think cato is developing well, last game against the pistons, cato kind of outplayed ben wallace, and ben is an allstar, of course he plays in the east so he is pretty much the only big guy over there, but cato and Mo are a good combination right now, the chemistry of the team should be left as is, im not saying that the trade would be horrible, wallace is a good player, its just that all the troubles with the technicals and his attitude, it probably would be bad for the rockets right now.
I was wondering when someone was going to bring that up. Cato is 7 mil + 6 mil exception + Boki = Rasheed And our lineup of : Francis/Mooch Cat/Pike Sheed/JJ MoT/Sheed/Ford Yao/Sheed/Man-t*** ..................that would be frightening.
I dunno bout you all but THERE IS NO WAY THAT SHEED IS ON THE BENCH ON ANY TEAM. ESPECIALLY BEHINd MO-T.
I kind wish we can brainwash Sheed. He has always been one of my favorite players but after hearing about what he did to Ruben Bout-something-something, I don't think I want him on the Rox nemore. His actions were very disgusting I'd also like to say that during Shaq-Kobe's first championship run, the Sheed back then was simply the 2nd most unstoppable force behind Shaq in the lowpost. Whenever he got the ball deep, the Portland fans would chant "Sheeed" sumthing like that and it was one of the greatest series I've ever seen
Ummmm......Isn't Portland trying to cut payroll, not raise it. That is their #1 goal right now, getting under the salary cap. It wouldn't suprise me if they would trade Wallace for Mobley straight up.
Sorry, but I don't think that works. The exception has to be correspond to a given player's salary in a trade. You can't combine it with Cato's to make up the difference in Rasheed's salary. Let's say that Cato's and Taylor's salary equals Rasheed's. You could use the exception to take on, say, Ruben Patterson's salary. But you can't split Rasheed ('s salary) into two to use the exception.
Check those numbers again and tell me how many points per minute, rebounds per minute and assists per minute we'd lose.
I don't want Wallace throwing fastball specials to our players while they have their backs turned during practice.
