He developed a 3 point shot?

Pros: He won't get banged up so much from being in the paint so much.
He would be deadly no matter where he was
He might fit Adelman's prototype center more.
He can pretty much shoot over anyone because of his size.
It might lengthen his career(Less banging, less potential injuries)

    Thoughts, and possible cons?

He hasn't developed a consistent midrange shot. What makes you think he'd be a successful 3-point shooter?

Yao can shoot FT like a god, I see some potential.

His Fts, and his crazy work ethic. He might just get good with enough practice.

he can make it if its a turnaround fadeway but for some reason he can't make a set shot from the same distance.

    Won't happen.

If he has such a great work ethic why can't he hit midrange jumpshots?

Conversely how can he hit 90% FTs?

I figure if he plants his feet and practices 3s, it'll just be a longer 3 point shot.

Midrange jumpers are a different animal all together.

Besides, who would guard him if he attempted a 3? No one. Now if he started making them...

    :D

To be a consistently good jump shooter, you have to have some lift in your shot, especially when there's defender on you, I doubt most players are going give him an open shot. I think he shoots them decently for a big man, probably better than say Shaq or Dwight.

Thing is I think he could actually could develop a little jump shot, but I don't think he needs to because it will play right into the other teams hand of not having a storng big man in the paint.

Really dumb idea... Yao's advantage as a player is his size and soft touch around the basket, so the post is where he belongs. Besides, to attempt 3-pointers in a game regularly, Yao should at least be able to shoot above 50% during practice, which I don't see happening (I wonder what percentage Alston makes during practice... can't be much higher than Yao according to his in-game shooting).

Now, would it be possible if the OP develop some sense and not start any more pointless threats?

I've only started one... No need to go on a character assault.

It was an idea nothing more. I'm not saying that he leave the post, but if he were to attempt maybe one or two a game, it might make the other teams wary.

    LOL@ this thread.

Yao has as much of a chance of becoming a good 3pt shooter as I have of becoming the Pope.

It sounds weird, but it's a great idea. Yao shoots 3's pretty well in CBA, and in Olympics.

Under Van Gundy you'd read about Yao practising his 3pt shot and wanting to use it but the moment they hire adelman he tells reporters he's not confident about taking treys...

No, we should have him shooting from half court so he doesn't have to run too far to get back on defense. He will save lots of energy that way and never get blocked. I think he can hit at least 2-3% of those shots.

unlikely to happen. no for now, to say the least.

how about yao gets his mid-range jumper back? teams will leave him relative open from 16ft. out. when he becomes as old as the sabonis in portland, then maybe. hopefully by then we have won 3 rings already...

Big guys that can shoot threes always fail. Now, if you asked for Yao to improve his mid range game, i might listen.
