Would the Rockets be better off missing the playoffs?

  1. Don't be silly, the playoffs are better.

The Rockets are spiraling (as usual), and since they have almost no chance of advancing past the first round anyway, wouldn't it be better for the team to miss the playoffs?

There are two reasons for this.

One, it forces Les Alexander to make massive changes with the team, possibly trading more than one key player, and even hiring a new general manager.

Two, it gives the Rockets back their first round draft pick (lottery protected), and there's always the slim possibility that the ping pong balls bounce our way, and we get a good pick. That pick might be the bait needed to trade Cato's or Taylor's contracts, or combined with SF bring us a star point guard or power forward.

For the record, I prefer see YM in the playoffs, but it wouldn't bother me too much to see them in the lottery either.

How would it be better?! You've got to be kidding me. Making the playoffs is a must this season.

    NO WAY, NO HOW.

I don't see any kind of a chance of CD being gone. Think about it, LES is still paying Rudy money and if he drops CD's contract he will still have to pay him too! And this is no pocket change.

Les needs the money the playoffs would bring. our team needs to make it, just for the sake of finally being in the post season.

How about we make the playoffs and still make some roster changes? Its all about getting some playoff experience, plus dont we have to give our first rounder to another team no matter what happens in these last 6 games?

We need to move forward as a franchise, not settle for mediocrity. Years cannot be wasted. Its time for some results, no excuses...

i'd say they should get into the playoffs otherwise it'll do too much harm to their confidence, unless you want to make big moves in the off season and looking for excuses ...

I was considering starting this same thread.

We are a good team (not great but good). With the existing talent I don't see us becoming great. We need pieces that fit togehter.

Steve Francis would be better off on another team. He needs a team he can lead like AI in Philadelphia. We need to build our team around the biggest NBA attraction in the world.

I think it would be better for the Rockets, Yao and Steve (who I love as a basketball player). If Steve is traded I will become an instant fan of whereever he goes -- but I still think the pieces don't fit here.

Maybe not making the playoffs is the only way to force it to happen

It doesn't really matter. Either way, the team needs a major overhaul...

I definitely want to make the playoffs. They need playoff experience. The sooner Yao, Francis, etc get it.. the better

JVG will make sure that making the playoffs doesn't go to their head and make sure that they know they have a lot of work to do still

I think changes will be made regardless of our postseason (and my personal preferences). I wouldn't throw away the playoffs just for that.

CD: "This team had a terrific run to the playoffs in a fantastic Western Conference before being swept in the first round the of the playoffs. I feel confident that next year, this same team can do even better."

That is like saying "throw away your scratch-off win cards to learn the importance of earning money". No one in their right mind wants to do that.

Getting Yao was a fluke, it won't happen again (let's hope we won't be back into that position any time soon). If we miss the playoff, it's very unlikely that we get the top 3 picks.

Considering the 3 stars the thread has currently, it seems that people do not agree. :p

if you get in the playoffs...ANYTHING can happen.

i can't believe 31 people would rather look at a possible chance in the future instead of going with what you've got. I mean, what you've got is a team that can make it in the western conference...that means you have a top 10 team. Stop looking for the perfect team and BELIEVE that you can do it now.

A lot of team don't have chance to past first round, this year and any other year in the past.

Actually, you can also think this way: if we don't have a chance at the conference title, what is the point of getting into playoff? In that case, only 5-8 teams should be fighting for playoff every year.

Playoff is over due! Go playoff!
