Larry Hughes is having the worst preseason I have ever seen. Dude has hit zero FG and only 50% free throws for a whopping 1.0 ppg. I know it is only preseason, but he still looks crappier than usual.
He was motivated and playing for a contract. Once he got the guaranteed money, he turned into a chump. Larry Hughes is a poster child for how guaranteed contracts can completely suck the inspiration out of a player who's only goal is money. My name for it is Moochie's disease (named after the pathetic loser, Moochie Norris).
The Moochie Norris disease is actually called insomnia (he struggles with it). Norris was never good to begin with.
Woah ****. Don't play around with the MOOCH. I loved watching the Mooch and the Wizard come off the bench. Fun times...
I knew his image is of a typical chucker taking bad shots, but didnt realize his season by season shooting %s were THAT low. Too his credit he's become a decent 3 pt shooter after starting his career as a terrible outside shooter. But his overall FG % still kept getting worse. Not sure if the past draft class was supposed to be deep or not, but Tyreke Evens is compared to Larry Hughes & Jamal Crawford and he went #4. He needs to find a different player to emulate
Interesting. I usually cringed when Moochie was in the game. He used to make me grind my teeth nonstop.
I know, I know. It was the super underdog swagger that our team had that appealed to me I think... I want a Moochie Norris jersey.
Considering he shot 43% and 28% behind the line, I'm more inclined to believe that season was more a result of him chucking freely in a "do whatever you want" offense. Granted, he was shooting a lot worse before and after that season, but that season was still crap for a guy who got a $10+ mil contract afterwards. I never understood some GMs' fascination with athletic guys who can't shoot. What good are those hops and speed when it still results in a brick?
That was the proverbial "breakout" year for Hughes. He also had a boatload of steals, was on the 1st or 2nd all-defensive team and he attacked the basket a lot. The thought was he finally "got it" and was poised to get even better playing off of LeBron (instead of Gilbert) and taking advantage of better scoring opportunities. IIRC, he was injured for a few games that season and returned against the Rockets and just torched them. It was quite a display. I remember McGrady shaking his head and saying afterwards "what has gotten into Larry Hughes?". Before I found out Hughes wanted stupid money, I said the Rockets should take a look at him. Hughes is a poster child against the notion that guys who have breakout seasons during contract years are likely to keep it up and get better. If Tyrus Thomas puts up 15/7 or 16/8 this season and some dumb GM gives him long-term security, same thing will happen.
I hate these guaranteed contracts, keeps a player you don't want on a team and denies a place for someone better. Brian Cook is going to eat up a roster spot that may cause us to cut Will Conroy or Pops. Really like Conroy's game, would hate to lose him.
Same here, I use to love those Rocket teams. I actually remeber Moochie hitting a couple game winners for us. Specifically, a game against the Pacers I think that went to double OT. Ended with Moochie hitting a game winner and then proceeding to dance on the press table.
