I'll have to say jerry krause. one reason out of many others , he traded away elton brand a 20/10 player for tyson chandler, a "potential" 20/10 player,

    (thats just my opinion )

[IMG] I don't think it's even an arguable question. Brand is something that you don't find in every draft.

I wouldn't list Krause the worst GM in the league given his track record and recent moves.

True, he traded away the best thing going for the Bulls in Elton Brand, but in retrospect, not only did that deal get them Chandler, but also Oakley and Anthony in a way.

He also traded Olden Polynice for Scottie Pippen, which is one hell of a highway robbery.

I think it's pretty obvious who the worst GM in the league is; whoever's in charge of the Grizzlies, and they've had the worst GM in the league for a while now. Stu Jackson was one of the worst GM's in the history of the league imo.

I'd have to list the Warriors as having the 2nd worst management in the league, given the fact that they've traded away an entire allstar team it seems like in that franchise's history, but as Swopa would point out, the current regime has made some pretty good moves.

Easy, Knicks GM has no clue whatsoever.

Yeah, the guy you'd want to give the prize to is Dave Twardzik, who was fired in 1997 ... and would probably be in the running for the worst GM in league history.

Twardzik's achievements in only two years:

    (1) Overruled his head scout's recommendation of Kevin Garnett to draft Joe Smith (the worst #1 overall pick since LaRue Martin in 1972).

    (2) Handed full leadership of the team to Latrell Sprewell (soon to be infamous as the most selfish player in the league).

    (3) Traded Tim Hardaway and Chris Gatling for Kevin Willis and Bimbo Coles. (Hardaway would go on to be a 1st-team All-Pro and Gatling an All-Star reserve; Willis would be released for cap space, and Coles would remain Bimbo Coles.)

    (4) Used the cap space obtained by trading Hardaway (and letting Willis walk) to sign the aging Mark Price to a 3-year, $12M contract. Price was traded after one mediocre season, and out of the league by the following summer.

    (5) Drafted Todd Fuller at #11 in 1996, ahead of Steve Nash, Peja Stojakovic, Jermaine O'Neal, Jerome (Junk Yard Dog) Williams, and several other current NBA players ... including Kobe Bryant, whom Twardzik felt wasn't worth risking a lottery pick.

    (6) Traded Rony Seikaly for Felton Spencer. (Seikaly would average 17 points and 9.5 rebounds for Orlando the following year; Spencer would remain Felton Spencer.)

I can't think of any GM in the last 15-20 years who can top that resume.

Well the guy Swopa talked about definitely gets worst gm in history honors in my book. Out of the current gm's though I would say Knicks gm.

My god Dave Twardzik was a complete dumb@ss! How did that guy stay employed 2 minutes after being hired!? That guy set that organization back 5 to 10 years with those bonehead moves! As for current GMs, who ever the genius is making the deals for the Grizzlies gets my vote.

    Picture this scenario-

Next year, the Bulls tank with their highschoolers, and draft Jason Williams.

The next year, Tim Duncan joins the Bulls because he wants to play with Williams, Chandler, and Curry.

It could happen, and then Krause wouldn't look so stupid, would he?

Or the Bulls can tank (as if they have a choice [IMG] ) and draft Yao Ming. Then they have Ming, Curry, Chandler and Fizer as their big guys. They are forced to trade Chandler and Curry for Scottie Pippen! Now that would be beyond funny [IMG]

    Anyways my choice would be:

    1: Krause
    2: Layden
    3: Blazers GM
    4: Grizzlies GM

Baylor has removed himself from that list with his raping of the Fools ummm...I mean Bulls [IMG]

So they are going to start three big men?

They have Crawford and supposedly like him, they would have to look into trading him first.

The Knicks can be so good if they had a good GM. I have to say, the Knicks.

They really should've looked into letinng Alan Houston go for a big man. Someone who needs to resurrect his career. They would be much better off like this:

Trade Houston + Ward + Harrington for Vin baker + Shammond Williams

    Camby/Kurt Thomas
    Baker/Kurt Thomas
    Rice/Sprewell
    Sprewell/Postell
    Williams/Mark Jackson

They made need a throw in, or sign a player via the 4.5 milloon excpetion, but they'd do so much better with a structured team.

Why are so many people voting for Layden? What has he done that is so bad? Or is this just a combined Utah-NY hatred being inflicted upon him?

It seems like there was a purge recently and a lot of teams that were perenially bad have a chance to start over now: Clippers, Cavs, Grizzlies, Pistons, to name a few. So it's hard to get a bead at the moment on who is stinking it up the worst.

I'll give me vote to Dan Issel of the Nuggets. How come his team hasn't improved an inch in 5 years? Hopefully Kiki can help turn things around.

No NY hate involved Layden is just an idiot. He's gone way over the cap in signing guys for way more than they are worth. He has Houston signed for over $100 million long term, Sprewell and LJ both signed for $11.3 million. Rice signed at around $8.5 million, Luc Longley at $6.6 million, and now Weatherspoon for like $35 million long term. He has the Knicks screwed over for the next 8 years now.

Another vote for Scott Layden (Knicks current GM).

13 guaranteed contracts (most running thru 2004), team salary is $85M. PGs are Charlie Ward, Mark Jackson, and Muggsy Bogues. 3 "healthy" players over 6'8: Camby (who misses 20+ games a year), Kurt Thomas and Othella Harrington (who should be real happy about splitting time with Weatherspoon, LJ, Thomas, Camby and maybe Glen Rice).

Not a pretty picture, and there's no quick fix. Add in Luc Longley and Travis Knight to the front court.
