Survivor Champ Richard Hatch to Plead Guilty to Tax Evasion

OK, this guy Richard Hatch, if you recall, was a jerk on the show, but also the original Survivor, when the series was at or around its zenith. Hell, even I watched that stupid show religiously back then, and I hate reality tv with a passion.

However, despite becoming a nationally famous b-list celebrity, famous of course, for winning 1 million dollars, he decided not to report it on his federal income taxes, apparently thinking he could get away with it. I mean, only, what, 50 million people watched him win 1 milllion dollars on live TV, right? Hell, who would ever know.

Outwit, outlast, out-hubris. Here's to you, Richard Hatch.

Richard Hatch has officially become an honorary Texas A&M graduate with this bonehead move. What was he thinking?

This is great! I hope he gets the maximum sentence. He deserves it apparently. He may have won but it appears he really lost.

i think it's a joke. aggie jokes are pretty common in texas...even among aggie fans with a sense of humor. like polish jokes up north...or blonde jokes.

What an idiot. What I have a hard time believing is that the radio station paid him 310k for a years work. I wonder if Chance makes that much money for his radio gig ;)

I can't help but think Richard did this on purpose. From what I know of him, he will be quite content to drop the soap.

The article said he could be fined $250K per count...he was charged with 2 counts...that's $500K, even with my education.

And I'm assuming he's still on the hook for the taxes.

Suffice it to say, most of that $1 million will be HISTORY.

I just don't get how ANYONE could be so dumb? It's not like he was getting some tax-exempt gift for winning Survivor. Who in their right mind would even try to do this? I think if your willing to try this...then you should also be willing to pay the ultimate price if you get caught. If he really did this out of sheer stupidity, then he still deserves what he gets for being ignorant.

He's basically going to pay back what he won in fines and possibly do jail time. He could be out more than he won or earned from his stint on "Survivor" in the end.

I just find this impossible to believe that someone could be so stupid. I want to meet this guy so I can laugh in his face.

I looked him up on IMDB, and it lists multiple institutions that he's supposedly studied at. I can't believe that all of these are true.

It also says his nickname is Darth Gaydar.

How many years ago did he win Survivor?

Why would he hafta claim winning it on this year's taxes?

    I'm confused.

    from the article:

Federal prosecutors charged that Hatch, 43, filed false 2000 and 2001 tax returns, omitting his income from the CBS show, as well as another $321,000 he was paid by a Boston radio station.
