I know some of you guys play poker. Anyone keeping up with the Main Event? Dmitri Nobles of Houston is leading the field with about half a million chips. Some really funny goings on being revealed in some of the poker blogs: Good morning all...Can anyone explain the $5000 or the Butterfinger on my bed? posted by Fawcett at 4:13 PM One guy ate two Keno crayons for $400. We did some prop betting before I passed out. The chips at the Gold Coast have pictures of famous rodeo stars. The have images of cowboys on most of them. I found a rare rodeo clown. I'd take two chips... one cowboy and one clown. I'd yell out, "Yo, Otis... Clown or Cowboy?" I'd turn over the chips and it mix up. He'd point to one and yell... "Cowboy!" I'd flip it over and it would be the clown. I won that series of prop bets, going 3 for 4. "I lose so much at Clown or Cowboy. I'm not any good at it," a dejected Otis declared. "I'm horrible at coinflips." Some pics: http://wickedchopspoker.blogs.com/my_weblog/ http://taopoker.blogspot.com/
I haven't been keeping up with it online but I have been watching the prelims they've been showing on ESPN lately. One of these days I'm going to work my stake up to $10,000 and go out there and enter.
All the pro's I wanted to make the final table in the ME got eliminated early, like Barry Greenstein, Hellmuth, Juanda, Ivey. I'm sure the winner will be some amateur that nobody even knows, but I'd like Hachem to pull a repeat. The guy has been a classy champion.
Yeah, Hachem has been alright. He's doing pretty well from what I've seen so far. I wouldn't mind Ted Forrest winning. I just don't want Daniel Negreanu or Humberto Brenes to win - I find them both irritating.
I'm rooting for Ellix Powers. "He called me with JACK HIGH! I AIN'T NEVER CALLED NO ONE WITH JACK HIGH!"
Looks like there are only 5 really big names left - Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, Allen Cunningham, Ted Forrest, and Humberto Brenes. Looking over the finished tournaments, some big names have picked up braceletes. Helmuth picked up his 10th to tie Brunson and Chan. Cunningham picked up his fourth, Chip Reese his 3rd, and David Pham and Sammy Farha bothed picked up their second. Dutch Boyd picked up his first by outdrawing Joe Hachem on the river in one of the prelims. The only player so far to win multiple events this year is new bracelet winner Jeff Madsen, who has won two. Other notable players picking up their first bracelets include Rafe Furst, Lee Watkinson, Ralph Perry, John Gale, Jason Lester, Max Pescatori, and David Williams.
That dude Madsen is sick. Just turned 21 a couple of months ago, I think. William Chen has won two also. According to CardPlayer.com, Hachem is still playing.
ok i know nothing about it i admit...but im pretty sure this Hachem guy is Australian. Aussie Aussie Aussie...
did ferguson get knocked out finally? was clinging to a short stack for a while. also, do you know if julian gardner is still hanging around? couldn't find him yesterday.
ferguson is out. i haven't seen gardner's name for awhile. yes, hachem is australian, lol. star trek TNG fans - turns out wil wheaton is now a full time poker blogger. http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/2006/08/wsop-main-event-beyond-bubble.html
I missed last night that Cyndy Violette and Kathy Liebert are still in, though they're pretty far down.
I've only seen this sporatically...I guess its still going on but how long does it last and when did it start?
The World Series of Poker is about 6 weeks long including over 30 tournaments of different kinds of poker: limit and no-limit texas hold 'em, razz, limit/pot limit omaha and omaha 8 or better, 7 card stud and 7 card 8 or better, 2-7 triple draw, HORSE, and others. It usually culminates with the 'Main Event' which is a $10,000 buy in No Limit Hold 'Em tournament. The Main Event is currently going on and it ends on Thursday.
that's kind of wierd that they know when it will end, but I guess they all go fairly according to script, timing wise.
and if you asked me before the tourney started to pick the last player of the 9,000 that i would like to see win, it would be her. she's nasty. attitude, personality, and appearance.
The tournament directors call it a day when they get to certain levels or number of players. So if they want just the final table of 9 on Thursday, for example, they would play on Wednesday until all but 9 have been eliminated and then call it a day - same with chopping the field down to size Tuesday, Monday etc.
