The next round of World Cup Qualifiers are this Saturday and the following Wednesday.

    3/28
    El Salvador - USA
    Mexico - Costa Rica
    Trinidad & Tobago - Honduras

    4/1
    USA - Trinidad & Tobago
    Honduras - Mexico
    Costa Rica - El Salvador

Here are the players called up for the USA, Altidore and Adu both got calls which is nice to see. Apparently whatever Eddie Johnson was using to blackmail US Soccer is still effective and he has gotten another callup.
GOALKEEPERS (3): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa: 4/3 SO), Tim Howard (Everton: 8/6 SO), Marcus Hahnemann (Reading: 1/1 SO)

DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes: 17/2), Danny Califf (FC Midtjylland: 3/0), Jay DeMerit (Watford: 1/0), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew: 15/1), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege: 13/1), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock: 8/0), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United: 2/1)

MIDFIELDERS (7): Freddy Adu (AS Monaco: 5/1), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers: 22/6), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach: 7/4), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers: 3/0), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA: 7/0), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids: 12/0), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca: 2/0)

FORWARDS (5): Jozy Altidore (Xerez C.D.: 4/1), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo: 13/6), Clint Dempsey (Fulham FC: 13/4), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy: 26/9), Eddie Johnson (Cardiff City: 9/8)

Can someone please explain his presence? He's been horrible for the MNT. He's been horrible in England. What does he have on Bob Bradley? Why would they not call a Kenny Cooper in or, you know, SOMEONE WITH TALENT?

Eddie's done quite a decent job recently at Cardiff. I think that with two matches coming up, his history of performing well against CONCACAF opponents, as well as the USA's lack of strikers are all reasons for his call up.

Also, unless they were starting, MLS players were pretty much off limits due to the start of the season.

23 appearances for Cardiff and 1 goal. Yes, it did just come recently and he was named Man of the Match a couple of weeks ago. But you can't overlook the horrid performances he's put together every time he's stepped on the field for the MNT over the past couple of years.

I hope he proves me wrong, but there had to be a better choice somewhere else.

He struggled early in the season but has been a completely different player recently. He's won over the fans in Cardiff in his time there and apparently has been one of the "hustle players" on the team, recently. For EJ to be known as a hustle player might mean that something has clicked. Hopefully it has because we desperately need more options up front.

Here's the lineup I hope we use, assuming Bradley uses the same formation he has been.

    ---------Altidore------Dempsey--------

    --Beasley-------------------Donovan--

    ---------Kljestan-----Bradley----------

    --Califf--Bocanegra--Onyewu--Hejduk--

    ---------------Howard-----------------

I'd like to see Adu get some minutes at right mid with Donovan up top, and for Torres to get some time in the middle, especially if Kljestan isn't have a good game. Since Ching is missing from the Dynamo I hope he gets some minutes, but I'd like to see what Altidore can do with a start.

The match starts in about an hour. The US needs to get the result and three points. These are the matches that the US should force their will on the opposition and secure a win and get another step closer to the World Cup.

    Let's go USA!!!!

Well doesn't look good for the Boys....down 2. what a joke. there seems to be no urgency for these guys. a very dissappointing display of footbal tonight. Luckly there is a game in a few days so they can rebound quickly.

ok so I must me the only watching this game. The Boys have fought back to score 2 within ten minutes to even the game. Maybe they can salvage a point.

2-2 with 5 minutes to go, if you include injury time.

Salvaging 1 point would be a nice result.

(edit) SEVEN minutes of extra time....wow.

DD - this is the longest extra time I have ever seen. Would be nice for the Boys to sneak in another goal here. There is a lot of pressure around the box. Just need one more final pass.

I'm kind of pissed about this game. I know you're supposed to be, at worst, satisfied with a tie in a WCQ on the road in a very hostile environment. But if the US wants to be considered a great team, they have to crush teams like El Salvador any time and any place.

On Wednesday, Bob Bradley needs to show some balls and start Francisco Torres over Kljestan. He's playing horribly and does not deserve to start. Neither does Beasley. How many of these kind of games has he played in during the last 10 years and he's still playing scared? YOU'RE LOSING 2-1! GO FORWARD YOU DUMBASS! Thank G-d for players like Frankie Hejduk, Ching, and Torres who play with heart.

I tie wasn't what I'd hoped for, but after going down 2 goals early it's a decent result. Hopefully we come out and dominate T&T at home on Wednesday.

A convincing win by my national team. Don't you think? Guillermo Ochoa should be starting from now on, even though the Ticos did not test his his goalkeeper skills. The midfield is solid with Pardo again and having Guardado back at full force showed. It is time for a revamp, and without R. Marquez and O. Sanchez, this is the team I'd like to see in the future. Thank you very much, Mr. Eriksson, for showing us we could at least believe in you. Too bad it wasn't a win in the previous game, or that would have erased all doubts and your position with our country wouldn't be hanging by a thread. We're still all not that convinced. A win is a step ahead, though, and that is better than just showing up to get trampled in Ohio.

In other news, or again, the United States pisses off people. Not because I DVR'd the game on ESPN and freakin' basketball commentary recorded in its place (luckily I had Telefutura also recording)... no... but, why?

Beat Mexico convincingly and then struggle against El Salvador. I am pissed on both counts for both teams. I was hoping for a great game, not an injury-ridden game. I do not think those cramps were even real. Those guys were using up time and it was DAMN obvious. So you didn't train well, so you didn't practice enough, zipotillos... then don't start the game! You had the game in your hands and you let it go. :( A win by U.S., a step closer to qualifying for them, and a step in NO DIRECTION for you, El Salvador.

U.S.A., you're supposed to beat El Salvador. You can't play the same type of game you play against México and expect othe teams to play just like us. WARNING: Don't be a one-trick pony. Nonetheless, I've said that a tie is really a win by the visiting team. Congratulations.

    Thank you, DrL.

 Ya'll better show up against TRI & To or I will be royally pissed, U.S.

Anyway, I can't say too much... last time "El Tri" went to Honduras, it was a game I would like to forget. :(

I heard that The Netherlands could become the first team to qualify for the Cup if they beat Macedonia... is that right?

    Good luck tonight, everyone!

    ¡VAMOS, México, VAMOS!
    ¡VAMOS, EE.UU.!
    !VAMOS, El Salvador!

They are very close but I don't think it's official yet. They have 15 points and Scotland has 7. Both teams have 3 games left so Scotland could end up with 16 points. Of course, the likelihood of The Netherlands not getting 2 points and Scotland getting 9 is pretty slim.
