It's pretty well known that South Africa, aside from Cape Town, can be a pretty dangerous place. Murders, rapes, are pretty damn high out there. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable out there in Johannesburg walking around at night. The question is, what can we expect during those four weeks next year? Granted there's beefed up security, but is South Africa going to get exposed as a dangerous, lawless place in front of the rest of the world? While it has a gorgeous landscape, scenery, and a proud soccer history, I'm not sure South South Africa was the right choice for the 2010 cup.
This is silly! Political correctness gone wrong. They should have awarded it to Egypt or Morocco, which are MUCH more suitable for hosting the World Cup, not to mention flat out better destinations. The European-dominated FIFA has always had a fond spot for SA
Only thing you should really worry about is gettin hustled. Protect your wallet and be careful how much you pay and what you buy. Other than that, I don't think there is too much to worry bout.
