This should be interesting. Looks like Simmons and Johnson are going head to head. This will probably go a long way towards deciding who the Rockets would prefer. Still it doesn't seem like either of these guys are valued at #8. Could this be another indication that a trade down is in the works. Maybe that Sheldon at the 8 for the 12 and 15 is on. Then we can get two out of Brewer, Redick, Carney and Simmons or Johnson.

My favorite scenario is to do the trade for the 12 and 15. Buy the Sonics #10 for a future first and cash. And take Brewer at 10, Redick or Carney at 12 (whoever Orlando doesn't draft), and either Simmons or Johnson at 15.

I like what I've read about both guys, so this sounds good to me.

It sure does seem to allude to a trade down of sorts, since neither Simmons or Alexander is sniffing #8, as you said. On top of that, Simmons has always been considered fringe Lottery, and Johnson has been flying up the charts the past few days, so we couldn't really be looking at these guys for the #32 either.

I love that idea of getting the 10, 12, and 15, but it seems unreal. Basically, I don't see the Rockets pulling it off because it would be too out of character for them to do something that smart.

In that scenario we would still have the #32, right?

Under that scenario I would go for Simmons (#10); Brewer (#12) and Ager / Fernandez (#15) and Shawne Williams / Steve Novak (#32).

I would like the scenario of trading #8 for #12 and #15, then selecting Redick at #12 then Simmons or Johnson #15 or maybe a defensive PG like Kyle Lowry to throw at the Jason Terry's and the Devin Harris types. Then use #32 on a lockdown defender like a Bobby Jones. Also if you go with Brewer at #12 then Simmons or Johnson at #15, that could open up selecting Gansey at #32. Either way you get a great shooter and a lockdown defender with a rugged shotblocking rebounder. In my eyes that would be a homerun draft.

Also I think next year Kyle Lowry will most definetely be a lottery pick, so you would have to consider him as well. He may be one of the best defenders in the whole draft.

Agreed, and too bold. It's happened for big names like Drexler, Barkley and Pippen... but when it comes to evaluating college talent, the Rockets are not one of the most confident. Ugh.

Renaldo Balkman has the length and lateral movement to be the next Tayshaun Prince. Even their bodies are similar, he is pretty much my lock for the #32 pick. Out perimeter defense is ever worse than our perimeter shooting, adding Brewer alone isn't going to help that.

I'm still pissed we signed Derek Anderson instead of Greg Buckner last year.

On the defensive end. Offensively, long ways to go.

The way I look at it, if we trade down and get extra picks, then why not? But if we sit at #8 and draft a PF, he better be a damn stud, because we'd have a pretty big hole in our backcourt.

No, not really. I mean there might be a trade, but this isn't any indication either way. Every year, the Rockets work out a ton of guys, including a bunch of guys they are in no position to draft. They like to be prepared just in case they do do a trade -- or to see if they want to make a trade. But, it doesn't indicate they intend to do anything at all, just that they are doing their homework.

I just don't see the Rockets adding 3 rookies this year. We have holes in the roster, but how many guys drafted in the teens are going to be able to contribute at all their first year or two (barring injuries to starters)?

I don't buy the trade down talk, most of these players outside of the top three or four are all rated pretty close in the Rockets eyes so don't be surprised or shocked if the ROx call one of these names EVEN AT 8 on draft night. Simmons in particular really interests me, just from the bios I've read, never seen him play.

I wouldn't be excited at all if we drafted Ced or Alex... that would be one boring draft.

i think we should look for utahs and sonics first pick and furtur pick since they look like another lottery team next year. if we are looking for a championship in 2-3 years, then heck, i would trade our pick and juan howard for a future round pick and josh childress to atlanta. sincde they need a veteran for all those rookies, and they have so much sf, and with our pick they could pick simmons, alexendra, or o'brient.

Our team needs tweaking not a makeover. If that were the case we would be trading Tracy for Garnett!! ( Just kidding)

I dont see that many rookies under JVG doing well .

How is adding three mid-first round picks a makeover, I ask the person who suggests that we trade for Zach Randolph and Darius Miles. If the rookies can't play right away then put them on the D-league for seasoning. Or keep them on the roster. I couldn't hurt. In case you missed it, this is a team that, over the past couple of years, has found time for undrafted free agents like Chuck Hayes and Andre Barrett to get on the floor. Not to mention journeymen like Keith Bogans, Lonny Baxter, and over-the-hill guys like Rod Strickland and Marc Jackson.

A few decent lottery picks can't possibly be worse than that. JVG doesn't have it out for anybody. If you're good enough to play, then you're good enough to play.
