Hey guys, I know this is the 'big day' for the release of the trailer, and of course the Apple page is fubar'd... anyway, here is a working link to a French site that has the trailer popping right up (at least as of now). enjoy! Looks pretty good I guess http://specials.divertissements.fr.msn.com/cinema/avatar/default.aspx
does look decent. I don't know the story, but why name it after the popular anime show, which is releasing a movie next year?
For the most expensive movie ever made, it looks like a FPS video game, I hope the trailer is very misleading... I thought "Titanic" was ok but not mind blowing...
I don't see this film doing well commercially. I don't see a large market for it. It should do will in the niche market of gamers. It's too much out of the mainstream to do well with families(too adult, too serious). As an action films they need an A-List stud, so they can be date movies by pulling in the chicks also.
Sam Worthington is supposed to be The Next Big Thing. He's getting tons of press and lead roles in upcoming movies. Girls are more sensitive to this kind of thing, so I can see it being a good date movie.
Mixed opinions. It does look a lot like a video game with the animation not looking very realistic. The aliens look rubbery. Plus the whole elf-like aliens seem kind of hokey. I presume they are still working on postproduction so the final product might be much much more impressive.
Meh... I wonder when they'll ever master CGI in terms of proper movement and momentum of creatures and people. They always seem to move too quickly, and swift changes in direction look unnatural. Anybody know what I mean?
I'll watch the movie, because I am a former gamer and love CGI. I don't see most women going to see this movie still. Even if it was Brad Pitt in CGI, I don't think it pull the women. The women are more interested in the live action stud.
The trailer was decent but not wow. However, I will blindly watch any James Cameron movie. The man has more than enough street cred. Terminator 1 Terminator 2 Aliens The Abyss True Lies What more do you want on his resume?
Interesting. Did he name it in 95? Well, it's on Wiki so it must be true, right? Still, if they renamed it to last airbender, must be truth to it... but... I don't really care who owns it, it just seems odd that a movie named "Avatar" would come out and not be about the show that's been called that for... how many years now? Odd he didn't make them cease and desist a while back, though he's probably ok with the additional recognition. From the looks of it, he could use the help. Oh, and Titanic mostly just sucked.
Well, the word 'avatar' itself is just a general noun in the English language. It would be like someone trying to own the word 'shoe' - it just wouldn't be possible. On top of that, while the term 'avatar' may have been somehow cool in '95, it has become such an over-used term in so many places, including corporate geek-speak, for so long now, that the word has really become more lame than anything else. I suspect that that is at least as much a reason why the cartoon people didn't fuss too much about dropping the word from their title as anything else. It just wasn't worth the effort or expense to fight about it. They don't really lose anything without it, as everyone who watched the tv show knows what The Last Airbender is, and every time someone talks about Cameron's Avatar, people will still also be reminded of the Airbender movie too. Free advertising, Brilliant!
yeah, I hear ya , though I didn't say it wasn't successful. I know people disagree and have numbers to back it up. But I didn't care for it. In fact, I'd say it put the suck in sucksessful. Popularity obviously doesn't always equal quality. ROSSSSe.... ROSE!!!! ROSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unwatchable
That looked pretty meh. I'll probably see it on video, because I've liked all of Cameron's films. I include Titanic, which got way too much teenage girl hype and covered the fact that it was a pretty solid movie.
