Ok, so, since the majority of the people on this board are guys, I think you can understand this phrase "Older bigger meaner lady who dislikes you for your youth and wit, who toils for your destruction." I am going to abbrieviate down to BEAST for the purpose of length. I dont know if everyone has run into this type of BEAST but maybe those of you who understand can more effectively advise me.

    Here it goes.....

I walk into work at 11 am today. I am a trainer at a bookstore. When I enter, there are 4 other employees in the store at the time, The GM, the BEAST (Office supervisor) A cafe person (adrien a 24 year old fan of ICP) and cheryl (a sweet older black lady who is our cashier). The gm is up front and tells me to clock in and come right up front because we were very busy. Well anyway, the BEAST goes to lunch and comes back very upset. She goes to the back and her and the GM are back there quiet a while. Eventually the GM came out and we were just doing customer service stuff. And she had mentioned the BEASt was in the back and was very upset. Apparently, 20 dollars that had been there in her wallet this morning was gone. She remembered seeing it in the morning at some gas station. I joked with the GM that they could search me. INJECTION- I didnt take it, lol. But honestly, I dont think that Adrian or Cheryl would either. There are 2 janitors that come in the morning, and stuff has come up missing before (my sweater and a nice radio/cd player that our gm got the inventory team.)

Ok, so , that is about all I hear of it, until..... I walk toward the back, and I see the BEAST (also should be noted, her and the GM are very close.) She says to me this (pretty verbatim)

Hey jon did the GM tell you abou my situation

    Me: Yes

BEAST: Well I just wanted to let you know that if I get my **** back then that is fine and nothing will happen, but I am going to file a grievance with lost prevention.

    Me: Ok I dont care

BEAST: well If I file a claim, loss prevention is going to come down here and there are going to start digging.

Me: Well than they can dig. I walked away.

I told the gm I did not like the way I was approached about it, all she said was "so noted" She also said that Crissy, talked to the other 3 employees and told them the same thing. But I highly doubt it was with that verbiage or tone. The are very good friends and this is not the first time that myself or my co-workers have felt slighted by that relationship. I dont know, I didnt care to much at first, but I thought about it and It is kind of agitating me. But I am not sure if I should be upset at all.

My questions: Isnt it wrong to let the "victim" of the robbery confront someone (a potential thieft) In that manner.

    Is the language accusatory?

Is this the proper way the GM should have addressed the situation (in light of the GM and BEASTS relationships).

I think it was the janitors (if it was actually stolen at all. Somrtimes you lose things you swear you had secure at your head on your shoulders) But who knows.

    Thoughts? Advice? Lawyers?

Life lesson: When someone is sh*tty to you, that says a whole lot more about them than you. Take the high road.

Your GM sounds like a complete weakfish. No way "the beast" should have been allowed to confront anybody like that. Sorry you work in such an environment. If that had happened where I work, "the beast" would have been terminated on the spot or at least severely reprimanded. We don't put up with people who ruin the workplace atmosphere.

She's going to file a grievance with "loss prevention" (LOL, what is that, some kind of secret big brother agency that resolves problems in the world?) over a measly $20? Will that even cover the "loss prevention" team's gas money to arrive at your store and start looking under rocks for a $20 bill? What a waste of time and effort. The lady lost $20, so she decides to piss off everybody in the store and waste corporate resources ("loss prevention") in her pursuit of her lost 20 bucks? Good grief what a waste.

I probably would have responded to her comments by assuring her that you didn't take her money, though. You seemed to just brush her off, which probably solidified her thinking that you took it.

I think you should have stood up for yourself and not allowed her to demean you like that. That was uncalled for on her part, it's completely unprofessional. You can't just walk around and randomly accuse people of stealing, what kind of place is that?

Well, now the stros game has me mega pissed too! What a day!

Tex and Tiger, just to clear it up, I told her on the spot (when she confronted me, that they could "dig" (refer to her word usage) away and I made it clear I did not take it.

I am more just wondering if the BEAST confronting me is a violation of our open door policy and all that stuff.

And her verbiage... "If I get my **** back, then its ok, but otherwise I am calling LP.)

I dont think that is what she spoke to the older lady.

BTW, you do realize she was insulting your intelligence with this "offer". If you had given her the $20 back she would have turned you in. Not only does she not like you, she thinks you are stupid.

Well, she was definetly setting a "trap" but this lady is no mental giant at all. She told me a few weeks ago that she doesnt understand a lot of the words I use. And I am not dictionary, I just dont talk dumb. So I definetly to fear her mentally. But the relationship b/w her and the gm + her overall gigantic negative mantra is concerning.

Stick a 20 dollar bill on your shirt and walk around with it at work, explain it's your birthday and ask others to donate to it.
