For anybody that has ever serious used their word proccessors one thing is painfully clear: undo and redo functions are painfully outdated. Seriously. A good undo/redo function should have at the least: a save history function so that when you close the document and then bring it back up, you can still go back. It should have a thumbnail feature that allows you archive versions of your texts. You should have the ability to set a word limit so that you can undo redo blocks of text and not just the last few words you type.

These are just some of the things that are sorely lacking in my opinion. If I knew how to program I'd try to write a program myself. Seriously, think of all the writers who would love to have this.

I can't even understand the so called improvements that Microsoft Word claims it makes on word half the time.

If you are a writer, like say a novelist, you are constantly editing on the fly. You get an idea in your head for a better way to say something and you think it is good and you start working from that point on, then a few days latter you realize that the sentences that you were working on has the idea you need, but not the same voice as before and you want to go back. Well, unless you keep word oupen 24/7, that isn't happening.

Writing, at least the way I do it, is like constantly stabbing at the air until you scare up the idea.

It is hard to explain how one sentence might contain the voice you want but not the ideas and how other sentences arranged differently have the ideas, to people that might not try to write creatively or otherwise.

But undo and redos help that a lot.

Word used to have a version control system built in, but its not there anymore since 2007.

Yeah but that is just saving the version of the whole document. I want to save my edits.

Version control was pretty stupid, how much more time does it take to just rename the whole document instead of fiddling with versions.

The editing features of word in general are dinosaur if you ask me. You can grab pictures, link to others, share the file and publish it too the web and yet the actual function of editing is lost.

If adobe photoshop had the editing capabilities word has to help manipulate pictures it would be out of business quick.

They shouldn't even call it a word processor anymore.

Damn - the man is right. I was thinking, man, what is this dude talking about - but I would love to have that functionality in Visual Studio for editing HTML and .Net stuff. I'm always getting pulled onto different projects and want to go back and undo/redo stuff - but if the company pulled a random reboot on me, I'm out of luck.

I wonder if this is even "top 50" in the list of features requested of MS? Hmm. Everybody's got a feature in products they think should be there. Then when all that stuff is included, you have what we have in apps like Excel and Word - apps where about 10% of the people use even 30% of the functionality and the rest of it is considered "bloat" by those who don't use that particular functionality.

Why don't you just use the track changes feature?
