It didnt take this long for the first, I wonder why it is two days for a recount? I am not debating anything, just something that made me wonder why it has been dragged on for two days.. Anyone heard why? ------------------ "Her Box Started Buzzing Ever Since She Heard The CRÜE"
The first count tends to be a quick one -- you generally don't expect it to come down to a few hundred votes, so mistakes here and there are acceptable. Statistically, they are likely to be insignificant. However, when a re-count happens, it's because the vote is statistically insignificant as well. The point of the re-count is to get it exactly right. Thus, they have to be more careful and check each vote more carefully. I'm not sure the details of the process, but that's the general reasoning. ------------------ Is it any coincidence that the Cato is the only Rocket with a temperature scale named after him? I didnt think so!!!!
Another issue is the people who count. I know in Harris County, it is a group of different political party volunteers who count them. However, under these circumstances, they might feel the election office should take full responsibility meaning fewer people to do the re-count. In addition, volunteers are just that and can't necessarily be out of work forever, for example. I'm sure it is a combination of many factors. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Aren't they waiting for postals and absentees for Florida as well.... ------------------ www.ILoveHumblePie.com
According to the latest news, Florida says right now counting 53 counties that Bush is up 1784. Ironic that it is the same amount he was up on Tuesday. But the woman, I forgot her name, said that they would still wait and count the overseas ballots in another eight days. However, the AP says he is up 360 or 380 (i forgot) with 64 counties done. ------------------ "Her Box Started Buzzing Ever Since She Heard The CRÜE" [This message has been edited by DUDE (edited November 09, 2000).]
There's also the problem of the absentee ballots, which in this election could make a big difference. I heard yesterday they still expect to recieve 1000-2000 votes, which in an election this close, could make a difference. In case anyone hasn't heard, Florida Absentee ballots must be postmarked by November 7, but may be recieved through November 17. They expect several thousand from overseas military personnel to arrive during the next few days. IMHO -- Stupid System. I've never done it, but think Texas requires the ballots to be mailed a week before the election. ------------------ Stay Cool...
