http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tm...p/20021023/ap_on_re_eu/sweden_massive_balance STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - When Gun-Britt Marklund checked her bank account to see whether her monthly child allowance check had arrived from the Swedish government, she knew that what she saw was too good to be true. Her account showed a balance of more than 93 billion kronor (US$10 billion) on Sunday. "You never see amounts like this," said the 40-year-old teacher and mother of three children, ages 10, 13 and 15. "I thought this money doesn't belong to me. Something must be wrong." Marklund's hunch was correct. On Monday, she informed her bank of the inflated child allowance payment — twice the size of Sweden's defense budget — and the bank acted swiftly. An employee had punched in a few too many zeros when funneling payments from the social insurance office into Marklund's account, ICA Bank spokesman Bo Lagergren said. The transaction was canceled and gone were the 93 billion kronor along with 15 million kronor (US$1.6 million) of interest accrued over the three days before the error was detected. Lagergren said the bank had sent Marklund a bouquet of flowers along with apologies. "We hope she'll be happy with that," Lagergren said. "But it's of course very difficult to find compensation on this level." Marklund, who lives in Haernoesand, 350 kilometers (220 miles) north of the Swedish capital, Stockholm, said her child allowance is normally 3,000 kronor (US$322) a month.
Shiyaat. I would have transferred about $25 million and bought some plane tickets to Singapore before informing the bank. Come on now. $25,000,000 out of $90,000,000,000 is no big deal. The bank gave her a bouqet of flowers? Thats sad. They could have at least given her the poor interest she had accrued. $1.6 million accrued in three days?!?!?
First thing I'd do is faint. Second I'd use that money to buy gold or things of that nature b/c then the bank can't do anything...haha! Keep it as cash in the bank and they can always freeze it, have to beat them to the punch!
I'd make a withdrawal and disappear. $10 billion?!? Sad thing is the woman probably thought she was going to receive a reward.
I'd transfer about $100 million into an offshore account. Move to Rio de Janeiro (no extradition in Brazil) and buy a plantation. Then build a huge mansion on the plantation. Put $50 million into bonds and CDs so that it can accumulate some interest. Disappear, and live the good life in Rio. Carnaval!
I would go to another country and live in bliss. But dammit...she told. She deserves more than a damn boquet of flowers. I think they should have given her the 1.6 million that had been accrued in her account.
my dad once had a big amount of money hit his checking account accidentally...it wasn't as much as this, obviously...but the bank corrected the error and he certainly didn't act on it.
Yes. What's your point. I'm sorry I have low morals, but I would have jacked that money too. There are so many better things I could do with $10 billion than a bank could...good and bad things..and even some very bad things.
I'd buy the Rockets. Then I'd cut Cato outright, develop Ming and Griffin to play the 5. Then I'd go after Tim Duncan in the offseason. Then I'd recruit ex playboy bunnies to be the Rocket Power Dancers.
Thing is you couldn't transfer those funds and if you did, b/c of the magnitude they could still freeze the account. Best thing would be to get things like gold, diamonds, etc...so you can excahnge it for money later. Oh well, to have a problem like that!
With 10 billion you could probably get someone to sell their morals to you. I'm just remembering all those stories where people find bags of money that belonged to the bank and didn't become good samaritans. Instead of a wind of good luck, they shared a county jail cell with Bubba.
man, i would have at least kept a few million. who'd notice it missing out of 93 billion dollars? sheesh!
So none of you would be willing to give up your current life for $10 billion? You'd still see your family and friends...you would just be living it up in a foreign country for the rest of your life. I'd move to Cancun.
If I was the government I would put a 1% worldwide bounty on the guy's head. Then again, I'm sure with a competent plastic surgeon you could visit your new family as Miguel Sanchez or Dr. Nguyen van Falk.
Money talks. I'm sure with $10 billion you could get create a whole new person with official documents. Officials like bribes.
