Woman Considers Filing Charges Against DeLay Goon
    04/06/2006

Sugar Land, TX -- Tom DeLay's campaign sent out an email (attached below) asking supporters to disrupt Nick Lampson's press conference this morning. At that event, a 69 year old woman says she was assaulted by one of the DeLay thugs who showed up to disrupt the event. The woman, Marsha Rovai, of Richmond has asked the Lampson campaign to help see if any of the televisions stations caught this incident on tape so she can consider filing an assault charge. Several of the women at the event complained that they were pushed and shoved by male DeLay supporters.

"I can't believe my Congressman, Tom DeLay, would organize this type of assault," Rovai said. "I was assaulted by two different people. One of the men hit me and another shoved his sign into my face, and then when I pushed his sign away he violently pulled my hat down over my eyes and pushed me. I'm considering filing an assault charge. This is just very upsetting and I'm so disappointed in Tom Delay for organizing this attack."

Nick Lampson held a press conference today to demand that Tom DeLay do the right thing and resign from Congress so the district can hold a special election on May13th. Tom DeLay's campaign sent out an email asking people to disrupt the event. It was during Mr. Lampson's remarks that Marsha Rovai says she was assaulted. However, she was not the only female Lampson supporter who has complained to the campaign that they were uncomfortable being pushed around by larger male DeLay supporters.

"The Lampson campaign has contacted TV stations to let them know Ms. Rovai would like to see their footage of the event," Lampson campaign manager Mike Malaise said. "We will leave it to her to decide how she'd like to proceed. But this incident certainly shows that Tom DeLay continues to try and intimidate the people of this district from speaking out against his unethical activity. This protest was directed by his campaign. That makes him responsible for the bullying tactics used by his supporters. Until he resigns, Tom DeLay is Ms. Rovai's congressman. He should personally call and apologize for sending someone to this event who would physically intimidate this woman."

To get in touch with Ms. Rovai, call the Fort Bend Democratic Party Headquarters at 281-238-9006. She is happy to talk to reporters, but after today's bullying tactics by the DeLay campaign, we are not comfortable sending out her personal phone number.
