"You had to be here, to see it, to believe it," Minnesota coach Flip Saunders said. "Basically, it's Murphy's Law. You almost got to do everything wrong in order for them to come back and win, which we did.

"We're in rut right now. That's what it is."

So much for the cnnsi proofreader.

What did the proofreader miss? "We're in a rut right now." Is this not a valid phrase to use when a team has fallen on to hard(heh heh) times? I don't really see where the error is...

    rut

n 1: a groove or furrow (especially one in soft earth caused by wheels) 2: settled and monotonous routine that is hard to escape ; "they fell into a conversational rut" [syn: groove]

I was informed by my wife that "rut" can be slang for having sex...I guess the problem was that there was not an "a" in front of "rut."

Well, if you REALLY want to get anal, the story does say "we're in rut right now" instead of "we're in a rut right now"

So, unless Flip Saunders got the urge to talk like a caveman, it is a typo...

Next week on clutchcity grammar review, the debate rages about ending sentences with a preposition. If you want answers for this hot topic, who do you go to?

No deer or elk hunters here? Rutting season or "being in rut" is a very familiar term to hunters. It's when the bulls are hosing everything in sight,(including themselves), looking for fights and the cows are receptive.

A-Train, what are you talkin' about? Ending sentences with prepositions sucks. I have been reading the board lately thinking to myself, where is all the grammar at?

A woman and a guy are sitting next to each other on an airplane. The guy asks, "Where are you from?"

The woman, with a grin on her face, says "I am from a place where we do not end our sentences with a preposition..."

The guy then replies, "OK, then where are you from, B!TCH?"
