The error you're making is that you're imagining the only two options we have is sign Harden or run it back. Or you're imagining Harden brings 20 wins while 2-3 other players in any combination would not bring 10-15 wins (thus making the difference marginal). This is a myth, any positive net impact player you add will bring wins. ANY 3 positive net impact players will bring 10-20 wins. It is a mistake to treat it as though it's Harden vs KPJ, that's not the situation we're in and that's not the choice we're making. The real comparison is Harden vs FVV (champion, shooter, defender, passer) AND Brook Lopez (champion, DPOY candidate, shooter). So if 34 year old Harden is going to bring us 20 wins, are FVV and Lopez going to bring us less than 10-15? What about when we get to the playoffs and crucial games, does it not matter that FVV/Lopez are champions in pressure situations while Harden is average or worse in clutch situations? What about how much more flexible Lopez/FVV contracts would be for trading to get another star when it's time for Harden to retire in 2 years? Also important: there's absolutely no guarantee that at 34 Harden will be a 20-win floor raiser. That's as optimistic as saying Jalen Green will be a 30ppg scorer next season. It's a nice goal, but it's not a realistic one. His regular season defense is worse than ever and his finishing (the #1 part of his scoring) is declining fast so on both sides he's getting worse by the day/pound. He didn't do that for the Sixers or Nets even though he ran both teams. On the Nets he was too fat and unhealthy and it didn't go anywhere, while on the Sixers he finished 3rd in the East and got knocked out in the second round (essentially no improvement). So you're kind of hoping Harden hasn't aged since he was 29 and there's no evidence of that.
I keep seeing Sixers fans saying they should do a S&T with Houston and get Jalen Green and it’s really making me want to slap somebody
At least you're honest in that you don't care about winning titles and only care about immediate entertainment, and I can respect that more than people who act like it's the best move for the future.
[ I want Harden back for many reasons, but the vehement opposition of @Mathloom in favor of.....giving $120 million to Fred Vanvleet...is rising up the list. You should be happy, if anybody on earth can make your mascot Usman Garuba looks like a competent NBA player, it's probably James Edward Harden.
What reason are these people imagining the Rockets could possibly have to do this, exactly? Also, if true, I do find myself amused that this is the end of both Head Honcho and SenHub. The GARM will be in tatters
Agreed. And the talk of Embiid being “shocked” Doc was fired reeks of the GM covering for his MVP as to not make it seem like Embiid had anything to do with it. 0% chance that move was made without running it by Joel.
Philly fans are in the delusional phase right now. Kind of like when Texan fans were hoping for 3 1sts, 2 2nds and 2 young players for Deshaun. That’s their way of grieving…lol.
Keith Pompey is reliable so I’m guessing it’s a done deal.now the ideal scenario is get him to accept a deal that will ideally allow us to sign a veteran or two. Naz Reid or a Robert Williams type
half of them can’t comprehend that we have the cap space to sign him outright, the other half think that report that said we were discussing trading Jalen Green was about trading him in exchange for Harden or that Harden will “do the Sixers a favor”
Embiid being shocked honestly makes him look bad in my eyes collapse against the Hawks and this game 7 embarrassment…the shock would be if Doc was somehow still coaching the team next season if anyone should have been leading the charge to get Doc fired after how this season ended, it should be Embiid, and no one would blame him
Sports fans and reasoning do not often go together. A lot of them don't grasp that he's gowanns to be a free agent and will just leave. Hell, Harden's left two teams in the lurch before (including ours). Why not go for the trifecta?
as much as i disliked the way things played out, im ok with this lol he's been houston from the first day he got here bring him home, stone!
Doesn't seem like a lot of new info, but: https://www.inquirer.com/sports/jam...dium=social&utm_content=&utm_term=&int_promo= The money lines: CHICAGO — The belief among NBA executives is that James Harden will rejoin the Houston Rockets this summer. *** Sources have said his interest in returning to Houston is mutual and not a ploy to get a lucrative deal out of the Sixers. His mother still lives in the city. He has several business ventures there. And, as one source said, “he’s treated like a god in Houston.”
I'm still where I was to begin with, I'd welcome Harden back for the league minimum or just above that for a Manu Ginobili type bench role. If he wants anything else, or makes any demands, he can pound sand.
Targets Josh hart Naz Reid Harrison Barnes Robert Williams trade targets with the fourth pick and a package of Tate and KPJ Cam Johnson Siakam OG ?
I like harden and I'm okay with him coming back, but not if it mortgages the future. If they trade the #4 pick for someone mid instead of seriously making a run at Scoot, I will be truly disappointed. If they S&T and give up someone from our core to do this, I will be just flat pissed off. I think he would be great passing to our guys, but I'm worried about his lackadaisical mentality rubbing off on our young guys.
There haven't been gains the last 3 years because of Silas. What's hilarious to me is those folks that think Harden is going to carry us into the playoffs again.
