The main roster indicates a preference for veterans with the selection of A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Alyssa Thomas, Napheesa Collier, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Sabrina Ionescu, Chelsea Gray and Kahleah Copper, those sources said. The U.S. women have won gold at every Olympics since 1996, and this distinguished roster of All-Stars appears positioned to be a favorite in Paris. Seven of the 12 players have Olympic five-on-five experience and two more have 3×3 experience, so there will be only three first-time Olympians — Thomas, Copper and Ionescu. Selected players began receiving their Team USA Olympics jerseys recently.
Women's basketball powers that be are IDIOTS. 20,000 people watched the WINLESS Washington Mystics play the Fever in a close game where Clark scored 30 points (had her best game as a pro). 20,000 for a WNBA game. She may not be Jordan, but she is the closes thing to Steph Curry in the woman's game. People are actually talking about the WNBA. They are missing a HUGE opportunity to grow the women's game. There is a rumor that Chelsea Gray can't play and Clark is the 1st reserve for the team.
I saw something saying that CC won't make the team because the outcry from her lack of playing time would be a distraction for the team. I think she's for sure good enough to be on the squad but probably not good enough to have that big of a role. She's better than Gray or Taurasi right now but not as good as Plum, Young or Ionescu so she'd probably only be playing the garbage time and if that becomes a media talking point or something then it could possibly be a distraction.
Yes, that's exactly the reason, and it makes some sense. But now they all get to answer nonstop questions about her *not* being on the team. Brilliant plan.
Probably better to get over with it now than after every single game when they have to prep for the next one. Imagine beating Spain by 50 points, Kelsey Plum drops 35 and the media goes "Why didn't you sub out to give Clark a chance?"
CC fans cry so much. it's crazy. I cant even be a fan of this girl because I want the worst for her fans.
We've talked a lot about seizing opportunity. The WNBA and women's basketball just flat out whiffed. Too much pride. This literally could have grown the game, salaries, profits, attendance, and league legitimacy 100 fold. As it sits now, the games will be an after-thought for people who are bored. Obviously, you put Caitlyn Clark on the team, everyone is watching inclusing little girls and sponsors. Opportunity knocked. They whiffed. Somebody should literally be fired over this.
