Supposedly Stoudamire is going to sign with a "mystery" team. With that said, here are a few options that we could persue.

Work on a SnT with Memphis, landing Swift AND Jason Williams.
Sign Jay Williams (Duke) for the LLE
    Other

I'd like the Rockets to pick up Earl Watson.

Not likely to happen with Atlanta and other teams with cap space or MLE room looking for a point guard.

Think about it, if we do a SnT for SS and JW that would give us back our MLE to pursue a quality perimeter player. By far that make the most sense 'Championship wise'.

I think Rockets should be patient. We already have a major (at least potentially) upgrade. I am sure those expiring contracts will get us something by the trade deadline.

what i would like to see happen is the Rockets make an offer to spanoulis and get him over here in a rockets uniform. he seems the best option out there for us. whether that happens or not i think the rockets should hold tight and see where they're at as the trading deadline nears and then try to swing a few deals. we have enough to win with now, and with the expiring contracts of moochie, baker, and spoon the Rockets will be an attractive team to GM"S wanting to make a deal as the trade deadline nears.

at this point, would rather upgrade Wesley and get a better starting 2......just stick with Sura/James at point...

I sympathize with the sentiment, but you are grasping at straws, especially in the case of Spanoulis. While he may be ready to play in the NBA, I doubt if he would be ready to start for a championship-caliber team. However, I would like to see him try.

On a related note, the development of both Spanoulis and Badiane I believe has taught us that we cannot use European teams as our farm clubs. They are direct competitors for players and are starting to pay comensurate salaries to keep their players (see Magic threads) and even attract some of ours. We should have developed both V-Span and the Badman as Rockets for the Rockets.

Sign and trade for Swift and Williams, and then offer the entire MLE to Gerald Wallace of the Bobcats, daring them to match.

    If everything goes as planned...

    Yao/Mutombo
    Swift/Howard
    T-Mac/Bowen
    G. Wallace/Barry/Head
    Williams/Sura

And some of the usual fodder after the trades: Baker, Norris, Wesley, Spoon, James, etc.

I guess it would only be fitting to see a PG we coveted and pursued burn us to join the Spurs (Ward, Barry).

    Hope it's not true though....

I say if we can S&T for Swift we could wait until Finley becomes a F/A and use out MLE on him. Man that would be a sick ass lineup.

    ???/James/Head
    Finley/Barry
    T-Mac
    Swift/Howard
    Yao/Deke

I dont know if JWill aka white chocolate would fit in well with this team, I really dont like his erratic play and I hate when he jacks up stupid shots. Its like getting Steve back w/o the athleticism. I do like Jay Williams though I dont know if his leg will hold up in the NBA. regardless we need to find someone to plug in as our starting PG. I doubt James will ever be a starter in this league even though I know he can, hes just more serviceable off the bench. I think if Head can just develop his pg Skills he can be the starter by next season.

If we can't get Swift and Williams through a SNT, switch to plan b:

Leave the 1 to Sura and James and try to trade for Desmond Mason.

On second thought, that may actually be a better idea than the first one...

I picked other. I want no part of Jason Will, also the LLE is too much for a guy who has not seen the NBA in a couple of years.

But I would consider cutting Ward and signing Jay Williams in a 2 year deal FOR THE VET MIN (not the LLE) so we don't pay any lux tax.

It could be true but I'm not buying it yet. I have to believe that DS really wants to come here. He may be using statements to try and influence Portland to do the S&T, because they are dragging their feet on our offers and looking for better deals for some of their bad contracts. Stoudamire lives here, he wants to play here, and TMac wants him here.

I voted for Jay Williams, which I believe we should, but I think there are more pressing issues we need to address that Jay Wiiliams will not solve.

I really would like to see the Rockets go after an extremely athletic 2/3 swingman......somebody like a Desmond Mason (if he could possibly be pried away). Quite honestly, although we really do need a point. It is very apparent, that our next most glaring weakness after Power Forward was a big 2 guard and a solid replacement to spell TMac during the game. We were exposed greatly at these positions against Dallas. Terry and Howard killed us.

A great, athletic, long defender that will keep the opposition honest by holding his own on the offensive end is my true desire. I'm tired of seeing our guys punished game after game by 2s in the league (Kobe, Manu, Johnson, Allen, etc.). If we could just cut their production by 30% that would be a plus 6-8 points per game. That would have been and will be the difference maker in a vast majority of our games. Further it will set TMac free to do his thing.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Thoughts?????

Rambling here...I do not know what would entice Milwaukee, but with their recent signings they may be interested in a more economical backup at the 2 as well as gaining a little cap relief. Wesley, Ward plus 2mil to cover Ward's salary for the year plus another 2nd rounder (possibly a 1st) just might get their attention. As I said just ramblin' on the last part here.
