I know it depends on who is left in the player pool but I seriously think we need a legitimate point guard. I am betting Steve Blake would be looked over and Rockets would be able to pick him up.

Blake is what the Rockets need!

-Plays hard nosed defense, any guard he locks up he locks em up good.
-Hard worker, hes no sense and he is probably the next best floor general next to TJ Ford.
-He can penetrate and dish, his passing is amazing.

    PLEASE ROCKETS!! DRAFT BLAKE!

Francis and Blake - I don't know if they had history, but at the Duke @ Maryland game a couple years ago when they honored Franchise they looked chummy. If Blake's up there, I wouldn't be surprised if we took him. Then we could have two Stevies.

Cleary best available player on the board. Whoever we get is a long shot to make the team anyway, or at the least wont play much if they do make it.

This team is looking to get more vets versus younger with draft picks, much less 2nd round draft picks!

Who cares. Second rounder is not going to make a significant contribution to the team. And yes I know about Cuttino and Orthello.

What if Cato is traded for a PF or SF? We would need some help for Yao. There is a guy coming out of a Beaumont high school,
he's huge (6'11", 290lbs). Remember Amare Stoudamire came
    straight from high school......

if what doc said is true. we are targetting a PG and a SG from the east. probobly through FA. that would leave us with 6 guards on the team (steve, cat, mooch, hawk, PG, SG). i dont think we will draft another one.

we also have a log jam at foward. moT, griff, and Tmo at PF. posey, rice, and boki at SF. again there is no way we go after another one.

this is why i think we go for a center. collier is leaving. and we need another project to play behind yao and cato incase of injury.

personally i think it would be really funny to see one of these guy's drafted by us:

Although we do have too many guards already, we really have too many of every position if you think about it. So I think you've got to go for what you need most, which is Blake, or someone else that can play the pt, or maybe pick up an enforcer, but if there's nothing to get, trade it for someone elses 2nd rounder next year, and save it for next year. (Arthur Johnson-Missouri)

We don't have enough cap space to go after a valuable PG AND SG.Espacially if we resign Possey.
Therefor we'll trade players(probably Cat,Cato,Taylor or Moochie) in order to get some.
If we do get the players we want via trades, our needs will still be in the backcourt.I'd go for a combo guard ala Planicic if still there.

I’m thinking the Rockets have found a gem in Europe and that when Doc says they’re getting a SG/PG from the East he’s referring to a European player that the Rockets plan to draft in the 2nd round. That could explain Rudy’s scouting trip to Europe a few weeks ago. Just my guess.

re-signing posey doesnt have an affect on the MCE that will be used to bring in a vet or two.

nobody ever said that they would be starting either. we could trade griff for a starting PG, then cat for an enforcer. and be left with the same amount at each position.

It really won't matter all that much. If people are looking for a 2nd round pick to make a major contribution to this team, they are deluding themselves. Under Rudy's system, anyone picked in the 2nd round will be buried at the end of the bench anyway so what's the point of speculation? Remember, the NBA draft is not like the NFL draft as the talent pool is much shallower. I believe that this year's draft is only supposed to be about 10 players deep anyway. After that, it's just one big roll of the dice.

I've gotta agree with Hillboy in a sense, because if this draft is pretty empty minus a few solid players, so it will be a time to draft someone out of high school or from Europe and hope for the best.

I,for one, believe this draft will be deeper than expected.
Just before the deadline, many potentially good players have put their name up(Euros,HS and college guys).
The "local" example being Ebi Ndudi from Westbury Christians.

Your talking about Kendrick Perkins. I would expect that if he doesn't feel he'll be a first round pick he'll go to Memphis and declare at a later date. I don' tthink he will take the chance of getting picked in teh 2nd round and then cut and by defualt forfiet his college scholarship.

Here is anoter good argument for him to stay in school.

Teams that are over the cap all have these exceptions. They are one year contracts based on the service years of players(I believe). The team can sign Posey to any contract that he'll agree to up to the maximum allowed by the league. Under the Bird rules the Rockets can also offer him more money than other teams can in FA, thus the reason you always see several sign and trades. The exceptions are $1 Million and $4.5 Million, if I am not mistaken and someone else can probably tell you the service year stipulations but I cannot remember them off the top of my head.

Ok so in the end,a part from the Possey situation, how much can we offer to a FA?
And who(FA) do you think we could get with what we have?
