Instead of $50 a year, you can now take $10 and...

    Give that to Microsoft too!

Kind of feel bad for Major Nelson today:

Sony and Nintendo (and Valve/PC companies?), please ignore this.

Xbox Live isn't even worth 50 bucks and now they are raising it by an additional 10...

Sure it is...$50 a year? Come on, that is not even $5 a month.

Compared to the competition (PSN) which is free, it is not worth 50 bucks.

Holy crap misleading title is misleading.

I thought they were reducing the price.

Considering I have never spent the full 50 on xbl, I'm not worried about this at all. But yeah that's a good way to look it. The increase equates to less than a dollar a month.

So instead of drycleaning 10 shirts in an entire freaking year, just wash it yourself and iron them and don't even worry about this increase. Hell you'd probably save an extra 50 cents this way actually

Is there a reason for the price increase other than Microsoft wanting more money?

I think this is hilarious. There's no reason feel the need to justify the price increase. Everyone has different opinions on the matter so "just $5.00 a month" does not have the same meaning to everyone else. If a casual gamer only gets XBL for a bit of gaming here and there with friends, I'm sure that person would be upset. Likewise, anyone who "lives" on XBL and feels that the additional features (whatever it may be) are worth it, he/she will continue to support it.

I personally wouldn't pay because I don't play enough. I already pay for my console and internet. Why would I want to pay for online? "Accepting" this as reality will only allow developers then to also charge a fee for multiplayer features. I can't wait to see where this ends. But, once again, even if it gets to that point, some people will find a way to justify it. Even if it ends being $50 a month, some ultra-gaming nerd will say "it's worth it".

Bottom-line: some people will pay for anything.

I have no problem paying to game. Im assuming that by paying you are filtering some of the a$$holes that would otherwise ruin my game play. I've had friends be banned from games before so its good to know that there is still some policing going on with it.

Comparing XBL to PSN is like comparing filet mignon to a hamburger from McDonalds.

Sure the McDonalds hamburger is cheaper but if you pay a little extra you get something high quality.

No one is forcing anyone to pay anything, if you dont want it, dont pay it.

However I believe it to be the finest online service out there and I will gladly pay hard earned money to be able to enjoy a streamlined, sturdy, and efficient online experience.

That sucks. We have two gamertags purely to play Halo. Like other posters, I get it cheaper than that right now.

When the next console rolls around I might switch over to PS4.

Microsoft is turning me off with this. 60 dollars is a lot of money for some people...

I guess it's not a big deal if it's only going up by $10, but I will be annoyed if they double the price over the next couple of years. I only use XBL for netflix anyway.
