Figured I would ask this here, on the off chance that someone else here may have had better luck.. Situation is this: Had AT&T/Yahoo DSL for 4 years at home, and everything worked fine wirelessly, has that 2WIRE little DSL modem, had all my devices set, including the PS3, Wii, and XBox360 all working perfectly on WEP. Wii and PS3 of course have wireless built-in, but the 360 did not. I bought this little Linksys thing from Amazon for like $25, and it worked very well. However, it was ONLY compatible to WEP. Well, back in May, I decided to dump DISH and get the U-Verse package of HD Television services along with their higher-speed broadband. All fine and dandy, except for one problem - the little old Linksys device would not work with the new UVerse wireless router, because it uses WPA-PSK, not WEP. So, fine, I keep my eyes open at Fry's and whatnot, because I'll be damned if I am going to pay $99 for that little XBox wireless doodad. So I see that Fry's often has this little Airlink101 Multi-function accesspoint/bridge/AP Client thing (431) on sale all the time for like $18. So I picked one up, and followed the instructions, and popped it on the 360 and BAM, it worked great. For a couple of weeks. Then all of a sudden, it seemed to have lost its mind, a reset would not even let me see it over the network to configure it anymore. So what the heck, I bought another one, it was cheap. No dice. It will start to configure, lets me input the security type and the passcode, but as soon as I configure it to be either an AP Client or a bridge, it loses any ability to talk to the network any more. If I do a *hard reset* (holding the reset button down for 30 seconds), then I can see it again on the network, but I still can't get it to configure. Any of you techie guru's out there have any clue what's up with this thing? I imagine it has to do with this U-Verse router, but I have no clue what to try at this point. Thanks guys
you are using airlink? I heard that was by far the worst brand for wireless. I think I bought a airlink wireless adapter once and it couldn't pick up the easiest signal, returned it for a netgear and it presto, it works like butter.
i actually just run a CAT5 wire from the back of my uverse box to the xbox360 itself. who knew you can use your cable box for internet!
Wait, you mean from the back of the UVerse router, or the UVerse TV box?? If it is from the tv box, that will solve everything.
2wire and Airlink are the keywords there. So I see ATT finally upgraded to WPA encryption. There isn't an option in your router to use WEP?
Yes there is, I tried that at first, but then nothing at all worked. It seems like the router is designed for WPA, but had to include WEP as a necessity due to some standards issue. However, it's all moot. Went home at lunch and plugged a CAT-5 from the back of the TV box from Uverse, and the other end into the 360, and BINGO. Works like a charm. 4 months I have been wrestling with this. And it was right there in front of me the whole time. Too bad the installer guys couldn't be bothered to tell me about it. Or the phone tech support guys either. Thanks Duwende, you are my hero!
yeah dude no prob. i was thinking the same thing a few months back, then i saw this CAT5 plug in the back on the uverse box and decided to experiment... it saved me $100 from buying a wireless!
I have a different situation: I have 2Wire and they gave us this USB adapter you can plug into your phone line and then connect the USB to your computer to get internet. I use this over wireless because it's a lot faster. If I plugged the USB into the XBOX will I be able to go Live?
