I have a Sony Bravia HD TV with HD service provided by Time Warner. There is a really annoying hissing sound when I have the sound up too high (only about 50%) and the only way to get rid of it is to turn the sound down too low to enjoy what you're watching.

First, anyone else have this problem? Any way I can fix it?

Second, can anyone recommend a good wireless surround system? I really don't want to spend a whole lot on it either.

Unless things have changed in the last year (which they may have), there is no such thing as good wireless surround sound - there's acceptable and there's "Jesus, why did I waste my money on this crap?!". Who makes your speakers? Or did this come with the Bravia or something?

Should have clarified- I don't have any type of seperate speakers right now, only the speaker on the tv itself.

Oh, gotcha - I misunderstood. I still don't know about any good wireless surrounds, though.

is the hd service run through a receiver?

could be bad audio cables, or the connection may not be secure.

check that first... but it sounds like the audio output from the reciever is low, and to compensate you're having to turn the tv up louder.

Depending on room dimensions, you might be able to get away with a Bose 3-2-1 System or Sony DAV-X1. Virtual surround sound ranks right up there with wireless back speakers in my opinion, plus you won't have as many speakers/wires/power cords to deal with. But you are talking about spending $600 or more for those systems.

Philips has a version out that Best Buys is selling for around $300, but not sure of the sound quality.
