You might need to use the wired lan to set up the wireless router but once you set it up, there is no reason why you need a wired computer.

It can work with just the modem hooked to the wireless router. But your Dell needs to have a wireless network adapter/card to be able to pick up the signal. I know yours is old am pretty sure that they didn't have the standard built in adapter. I use a Dell Inspiron 1150 and had to pay a lot more just to have the card built in. Can't believe I dished out more than a grand for this crappy laptop almost 2 and a half years ago. It still works well and runs real fast so have no intention on replacing it anytime soon..

i think it trys to connect, but it wont. any suggestions?

i tried to unistall its stuff like its drivers and stuff like that, but then when it does it says it has some issues with it.

do i need to buy another one? I don't have 50 bucks on hand with me. I was thinking of stealing an old hags bag, and use her money to buy it.

    hello.

I am having trouble connecting to the internets.

I have a wireless setup at home. I connect via a usb adapter.

It's a netgear thing. my computer can pick up a wireless thing. i mean that's what it says.

basically, modem is connected to the router,

my usb adapter picks up the signal, i connect to the internet, and post about High School Musical on the clutchfans message board.

It sees the signal from the router. distance isnt a problem, because, it's about, I don't know five feet from it? It' tries to connect, but it won't.

    It makes me sad. :(

is it the usb adapter? is it fried?

how much is an ethernet cable? I only have 8 bucks right now. i have to go to some ladies house in 25 minutes to go pick up some money, but i don't feel like talking with her parents.

    Is this serious, Kam?

Sounds like you need the key on a shared WAP system... err, something.

Just reset the modem if you never use a password.

Or find the "release" button in the config software... then "reconnect."

Or go to the library. Oh wait. :)

while you smart guys are here, i might as well

whats the cheapest way for me to hook up to a modem in a house thats opposite mine? i'm not stealing, they know it and im gonna share the cost.
is there some small wireless device i can plug into their 4 port modem and my laptop? our houses are probably only 30-40 meters away, if not less. if i use a wireless router, do i need a booster?
