I just recently bought a laptop and a wireless router. But, I am having connection problems with AIM. I can't seem to stay signed on for a long duration of time, especially when I'm away from my computer for a couple of hours or overnight.

    Also.....
This also happens with my wireless connection sometimes. I have to disconnect and reconnect back to the network in order for the internet to work. Signal is always excellent or very good. Just no internet. The 'You are now connected to the network' box pops up occasionally as well when the internet is already working.

    How do I resolve this?

    Router:
Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router (Model WRT54G)

    Thanks in advance.

    Michael

yea linksys routers have always had this problem. They'll randomly just stop connecting and you have to unplug and replug it in and it'll start working again.

Is there a different brand you'd reccomend that doesn't do that?

I have a D-Link router and its worked fine. I dont get the dropping problem that Linksys has.

    Go here http://www.linksysinfo.org/

I downloaded some 3rd party firmware (HyperWRT + Thibor14) and it has worked wonders for my wireless network!

I've had Linksys routers for the past 4 or 5 years and haven't really had any problems I can recall. I use wireless all the time in the house, but my main computer is wired. I'm waiting for a true 802.11n device before upgrading. I'll probably get another Linksys then, too.

D-Link is great, along with Netgear and Microsoft. Linksys used to be right up there with them but I know many, many people who have problems with their wireless routers.
