Maybe the Texans can play the rest of Oscoda High's schedule...who knows, maybe they win a couple of games...

Michigan district ends season for 0-4 football team

OSCODA, Mich. -- The Oscoda Area High School football team hasn't won a game, or even scored a point, in four games this season. Because of that, the school district has decided to cancel the remaining games.

Despite pleas from players and parents, the board recently upheld the school's earlier decision to end the season, saying players risked injury in trying to take on much stronger opponents.

"When you go to a game on Friday night and see a team physically dominated, those are the indisputable facts," coach Kyle Tobin said.

"Seniors, I feel for you. There's nothing I can say other than I'm sorry," board member Neal Sweet said. "But you're not quitters. You went out there and did your best."

Tobin said the team was not physically competitive, had too few players and faced a tough schedule in the North East Michigan Conference, The Bay City Times reported.

Senior quarterback Mike Gondek pleaded with the school board to reconsider the school's Sept. 19 decision to cancel the remaining games.

"All I ever wanted to do was play football," Gondek said. "My teammates never felt so unsafe that we didn't want to be out there."

Tobin, a first-year coach, defended his decision.

"I have 28 years of coaching experience in high school and college, and I know the difference between a team playing bad and a team that's unsafe," he said.

I used to play for a high school that lost 85 straight. Not heteros, I mean IN-A-ROW... football games. We didn't quit. Actually... ummm... they won as soon as I left. :D

What a great example they're setting for these kids. What kind of life lesson does that teach them?

If anything in life is too hard, eh...just quit. That should serve them well later on in life....

85 straight??!! We didn't win a single game my Junior year of highschool and I thought that was ridiculous.

Like Saint Louis and ima drummer posted, this is setting a terrible example for these kids, and only after 4 games?

I guess you're all ignoring the parts of the article where the coach said he didn't feel it was safe. Just because those kids thought they felt save didn't mean they were.

I doubt the coach and the others involved in the decision did so because they just thought they weren't any good.

You're right. I completely forgot that we have a board that is not only full of psychologists, it's full of people who've had 28 years of coaching experience.

pgabriel and Rocket River, YES. Broke my ankle during my junior year, didn't play my Senior year, only was on the sidelines 'cuz the coach didn't want me to re-injure my ankle, even though I had grown much taller than in my junior year, won district in tennis in my Senior year.

"Quit, before someone kills you" sounds like a good life lesson to me.

If it's not as bad as the coach makes it sound, yeah that's BS.

Football isn't safe. Maybe we should just cancel all high school football, that way no one gets hurt.

I'm not sure if you noticed, but The Shire didn't have a football team. There's probably a reason for that...

So...Quitting is now taught in a school in Michigan...Pathetic...How do you build team unity and learn to overcome challenges that you could use in your everyday lives...

Saying it was unsafe is ghey...
