I dont think windows come cheap. If you are going to replace, go ahead and splurge on the energy effecient ones thatll save you in the long run with the electricity bill
Yeah these are energy efficient, but honestly the efficiency never pays for the windows lol. I don't think you get any value back on the windows until you sell.
Depends on how long you're in the house. Will you be staying a while? I've read on some home improvement sites that window replacements are one of the lowest ROI as far as recouping costs when you go to sell. They basically said don't replace it unless it is broken.
You should expect 70-80% ROI on Windows at resale. In terms of energy savings it probably takes 50 years before the savings alone pays for the windows.
I got my windows replaced with double-paned vinyl windows from these guys: http://www.valuewindowsdoorshouston.com/ Their quoted price was 1/3 to 1/2 less than Pella, Andersen and Sears. I feel like the quality was about the same. Also, they did a good job with the installation.
Most people use WW because of price. I don't know anyone who has had a bad experience with them. What you should do it get a quote from WW, then invite Anderson Windows over. Before them come have a couple mixed drinks and then listen to the sale man try to convince you to buy windows that are 3-4K each. Yes each! They will try to offer you a trial option where they will replace one window at around 3K so you can see how it is. Most people spent about 4-5K on all their windows through Window World. A coworker came to work one day and told me Anderson came over and quoted 48K for windows and she was trying to talk her husband out of it. He was partially sold on the you get what you pay for thing. 50K dollars for windows for a 400K house is not the right kind of purchase. In the end she convinced him to use another vendor. Apex is a new company who a neighbor has used. Low prices and good service is how they described them. It has only been a year but they love them. I think they are a new company to Houston He said they got triple pane windows cheaper than they thought they would pay for quality double pane. Another neighbor has Pella Windows. The knew a guy who would get the units at cost so they only paid him for the install. I can't lie their windows look great but even with the discount I think it was 15-16K. They have this really unique light tan color which does look nice but most people get white or that super dark brown when they use WW.
ive had windowworld windows (vinyl double-paned) for over 8 years and i am totally satisfied with the windows and the company. they charged $300/window and that covered removing and hauling away old ones. the windows have a life-time warranty and they will do free replacements on any that go bad over time. a couple years ago i called them to replace about 4 that had developed a haze b/t the panes. it was no hassle. they put the order in and about 2 weeks later someone came out and replaced the bad ones. im sure you can get better quality windows for more money, but i have zero complaints about mine and would definitely recommend.
