I recently tried to install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 on a computer with Windows XP. After the program finished installing and I restarted the computer a blue screen came up saying that Windows has done this to protect your computer. It said that any new hardware or software needs to be checked to make sure it completely installed then restart your computer if the blue screen appears again, which it did, contact the manufacturer and if not start the computer in Safe Mode and uninstall software. I restarted the computer and got the same message so I restarted again and started the computer with the the selection that said "most recent settings that worked" The thing is the program is installed but I'm afraid to use it. What should I do? Should I try to use it and see if it works or uninstall it? Does it need something special for Windows XP?

Don't know how to do that. I don't have the message up any more so I don't think you could see it.

ok, most CD creation programs are XP compat. but there is a chance this one might not be. Try to run the program and if it can't run on XP, then you will see an error message, if that does happen, uninstall the program ASAP.

PS: There are lots of CD creation programs you can download off the internet.

Is there any FREE CD creation programs on the web where I can crossfade though? Crossfade is where you record the songs and when the song is ending it fades into the next song.

PS: If I run the CD creation program and it doesn't work will it mess up my computer?

I had the same issue, but I just uninstalled Roxio and reinstalled it and it's been fine. I think they have an update on their site, too.

    :)

no, it won't mess up your computer, it'll just inform you that it won't work on XP. You might want to try uninstalling it and reinstalling it, once more. It won't hurt. I'll search for you some cd creation programs with crossfade.

    Try using RealVNC.

It's the best to connect with.

Anyway, while this is on computers...

I just set up my network, and it ain't workin quite right.

The cable modem is working fine on both comps (this an XP, the other a 98).

The problem is that the computers won't connect to each other. I can't send or receive files from either computer. ANd in fact, they don't even recognize each other. I tried to go into Properties under my workgroup comp, but Explorer kind of froze and won't open it.

When I try to go into Properties of the other connected computer, an error message stating that I don't have access to it pops up.

I haven't really gone to the other computer to figure out if there is a password or anything (I'm positive there isn't), and I don't know if it's a XP/98 issue or the fact that the network cards are different.

It's no big deal cuz I don't need to send anything over the network immediatey, but I would like to solve the problem.

I have a feeling it might be a firewall issue, so if anyone knows a solution, pleas help!

    Mooch...

first...Xp will not allow you to access it's shares unless you have specifically told it to share across the network.
go to the properties of the drives you want to share and go to the sharing tab..

second...also ensure that both machines are part of the same workgroup..just to make things easier...make sure you have user accounts on both machines(ensure that the username on your 98 box has an account on the XP box and vise-versa)

start with this and see what happens...we may have to mess with permissions...get back to me tomorrow.

I formatted my computer last night, and when i put my easy cd creator on my computer it gave me the 'ol "not compatible" stuff... I found a file on the cd i have that puts the xp update onto the driver. It was labeled xp_module or something like that. i did it. works great. Holla
