i have windows office 2003 installed my laptop. i just got a copy of windows office 2007 on from my school. can i install 2007 and still keep 2003 or will 2007 conquer the 2003 one?
I don't get why you ask this question. I believe that the answer is YES, but why would you want to do that? What's the purpose of getting Office 2007 if you're going to keep Office 2003? You can still make Office 2007 save documents in 2003 version through the options. It will be like this by default, unless you change it. Also, keep in consideration of your laptop's hard drive space that 2003 takes about 1GB of disk space you can save by removing it.
Some people want to get comfortable with the interface before removing 2003, which is completely understandable. Yes, you can keep all the 2003 programs, but you have to decide between Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. You can't have both of them on your computer.
I forgot to point out that you should have an option to keep prior versions when installing Office 2007. You can even select which programs you want to keep. That way, for example, you can keep the 2003 versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and still upgrade Outlook from the 2003 to the 2007 version if you want to.
